Swift Shopper: Written & Video iPhone App Review
Here at The iPhone App Review, we are all about new concepts, inventive ideas, and concepts that will theoretically alter the way we go through life—especially if those innovations use our favorite mobile device. With that in mind, we’re quite stoked to be bringing you a full review of Swift Shopper today. The app offers a new way to shop for groceries (or anything else for that matter) while saving time and saving face. Best of all, this scrumptious morsel is completely free in the App Store. For our full detailing, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
The basic idea behind Swift Shopper looks something like this: What if you could scan the items you place into your cart as you put them there? Then, what if your phone could catalog and log all of those individual UPCs for use later? You could then take your iPhone to the front counter, hand it over, and have the cashier scan the collected bits and pieces rather than pulling it all out of your cart.
This is exactly how Swift Shopper works, and we have to admit, it works quite smashingly. The app’s primary function is as a scanner, which you need only to hold against an object for an instant before it memorizes the item’s code. After that, you can use the Items screen to classify, rename, or otherwise modify and sort your purchases. Lastly, when you’re ready to checkout, you simply hit “Checkout.” The app creates a slide-through-ready compilation of everything in your cart that the store clerk can scan in a pinch, and all without you removing a single item from your cart. It’s an innovative concept, and thankfully, it’s one that seems to work quite solidly, too.
Graphics and Design
Overall, we like the way that Swift Shopper has been branded, and the look of the app itself is rather easy on the eyes. At times, the in-app advertisements can become a bit frustrating, as they’re a rather bothersome blight on an otherwise fantastic interface. In addition to this, we did occasionally have an error where the app did not quite correctly scan an item. However, these moments were few and far between, which makes us think basic cataloging and double checking as you shop can still result in 100% efficiency down the line.
And let’s face it: Any app that’s free, offers to save you time, and helps you shop more swiftly is a solid investment in our book. We have some slight concerns that shop owners may not adopt Swift Shopper so early, but as time moves forward, and the concept spreads, we have no doubt that the app will easily become one of the most recognized on the iOS platform.
Swift Shopper requires iOS 5.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
