MyAlarMap: Written iPhone App Review
MyAlarMap is an application available VenICT. The point of MyAlarMap is to provide a way to request help in an emergency situation. Of course, it is always recommended to call 911 or your local emergency hotline first, but this is a second option. The app’s primary purpose is a social-oriented security and safety system. It’s best feature is that it is very simple to use. Once you open the app, just press the big button on the screen. Your location info will be sent out publicly so others can help you. Make sure it’s an actual emergency, because your location info can be sent out to others.
The concept of the idea is actually pretty incredible. It makes complete sense to have a way to send your location out in a hurry to others to help you. If more people start using the app, it has the potential to be a great tool. One of the features of the app is the public alarm map. The map shows the locations of all the alarms that have been sent worldwide. The app also let’s you send push notifications, Facebook post, Twitter post, and even SMS. The app even let’s you list some numbers that can be sent an SMS message if you trigger an alert. So the application really does have the potential to be a great safety tool.
The design of MyAlarMap is decently well laid out. The UI makes sense and let’s you navigate throughout the app easily. The big red button when you open the app is prominent and it’s very hard to miss it. Though I would recommend to the developers to add an instructions page that shows you how to hit the alarm, so the app would prevent any accidental clicks. Other than that it’s pretty clear how you can get around the app. With a tap of a button and a few swipes you can see the entire world on Apple Maps and view people’s alerts. There is also an emergency phones index that gives you a list of the emergency phones in each country.
Overall the app has a lot of potential and as it gains users it should become a more effective tool. The app has the added bonus of being optimized for the iPhone 5 and the app receives frequent updates from the developers. While this is not the best way to getting help when you need it, it can be a secondary measure to get some aid. It’s also best to call the emergency numbers in your area first. In total, once the app has more people using it, it might become a great tool and a hit.
MyAlarMap is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 6.0 or later. This app is optimized for the iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
