FoTask: Written iPhone App Review
Nowadays it seems like technology and social media are all about sharing. However, cat photos, memes, and a snapshot of what you had for desert can get very old very fast. Luckily there’s a brand-new app that should be a game changer for those who like to share photos with others.
FoTask, developed by Vadim Shapovalov, turns the social activity of photo sharing into a worldwide game. Instead of randomly taking pictures of everything you see, you can now aim your lens at completing tasks posted by others from all around the world.
Concept and Functionality:
FoTask is definitely a unique social networking app, and I can honestly say the idea behind it is nothing short of ingenious. Basically the whole concept is to answer tasks such as “Share a photo of your pet” with, you guessed it, a photo of your pet. These tasks can serve a useful purpose, as well, such as gathering local photos from a city for a project. Instead of searching Google Images, you can have live first-person pictures from someone who actually lives there.
FoTask is more than just a new way to play Q&A with the rest of the world. There are other social media features that help increase a task’s popularity, such as the ability for people to “Like” tasks. You can even follow other users so you’ll be notified if they post a new task. If you decide to take part in a task, you can even take a photo or choose from your existing photos right within in the app.
Of all the things I really like about FoTask, there’s one thing that became a bit frustrating after a while. Unfortunately there isn’t a language filter, meaning you’ll have to sift through tasks you can’t necessarily understand. Given the worldwide appeal of the app, I definitely think something like this would be useful.
FoTask includes quite a few cool features to help make the service as social as possible. Along with basic interactions such as being able to like photos and follow other users, you can also post comments on tasks and see how many views the task has received. If you happen to come across a photo or task that doesn’t belong (such as mature content) you can also report it.
FoTask also comes with rewards for completing tasks. You can earn gold and silver coins that can be spent toward creating your own tasks and even unlocking premium options. You can view the number of coins you have, as well as other statistics, in the Profile tab.
Lastly, FoTask includes a handy timeline-like tab that allows you to keep track of updates that you post or that your friends share. I really like how the app focuses on social networking just as much as photo sharing because it definitely makes it more fun to interact with others beyond likes and comments.
FoTask is available to download for free from the App Store. If you’re looking for a fun new way to share your life and photos with the rest of the world, I definitely recommend giving FoTask a try.
FoTask is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
