Clashot: Written iPhone App Review

Clashot for iPhone

Reviewed by Luke Patrick

From the ground up, the Internet is changing the way we create, view and receive media. We see this coming in from a lot of different directions, but nowhere is it more evident than in the way we interact with our phones. Now, there’s a new service and an associated app on the scene called Clashot, from Depositphotos, that wants to be sure our concept of media creation is rocked even further. The app allows users to snap photos, put them up for market, and then sell them as they’re needed. It’s incredibly simple, takes no time at all, and all happens right on your iPhone. Concept and Functionality

The basic concept behind Clashot looks something like this: You’re always snapping photos and putting them up on sites like Instagram. After all, that’s just what you do with your iPhone, and most of us tend to enjoy it. However, what if you could take those photos you think are worth something, put them up on a vast marketplace, and then rake in the dollars as those images are used?

That’s what you’ll get here with Clashot. The app allows you to upload your work, list it as for sale, add tags and titles, and then let the advertisers come to you. As your photos are purchased with licenses, you’ll get a cut of the profits. You can redeem this money directly from your iPhone thanks to your account, and using reputable services like PayPal. You’ll even get a full roster of filters with which to edit your photos, that way they come out nice and sparkly clean.

Design and Interface

On the whole, we think Clashot is an adequately laid out application. It’s not the most gorgeous title we’ve ever seen, but then again, it doesn’t have to be: After all, this is more a marketplace then it is a photo snapping app. On that note, the included filters and editing controls are certainly “good enough,” but if you’re a true iPhone photographer, you’ll likely come away disappointed with what’s offered here. Overall, we did like the simplicity of the layout, as well as the fact that all of the account management can be done directly from within the app.

Overall Value

We’ll spin it to you this way: If you’re intrigued by the concept of Clashot, you’ll likely get a lot out of it. Then again, the actual money you’ll be able to earn from listing your photos is up for grabs. Could be a lot, could be very little. Either way, the interface is solid, the concept is unique, and the promises are heavy. With that in mind, jump no this train now if you’re interested. There’s certainly nothing to lose, and possibly a lot to gain.

ClashotClashot requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
