Word Sense-ation: Written iPhone App Review
Word Sense-ation is a social word-guessing game developed by Golden Child. Sold for $0.99, Word Sense-ation is definitely the most fun if other friends among your social media circles also play; however, random opponents can be requested if no one among your friends also plays Word Sense-ation.
Word Sense-ation is an iOS game where players challenge their friends to guess what word they are thinking of. However, unlike traditional word-guessing games (like hangman), Word Sense-ation lives up to its name by incorporating the physical senses into the given hints for each word. Specifically, Word Sense-ation players can draw pictures, record sounds, select words, or upload photos and videos to provide “looks like,” “sounds like,” “feels like,” “tastes like,” or “smells like” hints for their chosen words. Three senses-related hints are given for each word. Correctly guessing your opponent’s word results in you winning more coins, and a leader’s scoreboard reveals the all-time record holders for Word Sense-ation.
Opponents to challenge can be selected from among your social media circles (like Facebook or Twitter) friends who also have installed Word Sense-ation. If you are like myself and don’t have any friends who are playing this game yet, you can opt for getting a random opponent through the app itself. However, the length of time that you can end up waiting for such an opponent to choose to play you can be lengthy; it took me several hours before anyone picked up my game challenges.
Appearance and Layout:
Word Sense-ation is a fun, brightly colored game that really pleasing the visual senses. It’s organized fairly logically, and figuring out how to play isn’t too complicated. Selecting the “settings” icon on the screen takes users to a “How to Play” option, but most users should be able to figure out how to play Word Sense-ation without too much additional instruction. Overall, I was pleased with the fun graphics of this app, and for a game that promises to challenge your senses, Word Sense-ation definitely delivers well on at least serving your eyes.
Word Sense-ation only costs $0.99. However, it is easily arguable that this app is the most fun when you have other friends who are also playing it, and it is typically harder to encourage friends to install apps that aren’t free, although there is also a free version availabe. Overall, while Word Sense-ation is an app with a fun concept, the fact that it is best played with one’s personal friends makes for a bit of a challenge.
Word Sense-ation iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
