Will Return: Written iPhone App Review
Will Return is an iOS app developed by Yuji Adachi that provides users with an automated “will return” sign plate. Reminiscent of old fashion “will return” signs that might be displayed in shop windows when owners were taking lunch breaks or something of the sort, Will Return provides an attractive way to share your digital working hours with followers on social media sites or through emails.
The name of this app really says all that we need to know about it. Will Return is an app that does just what its name suggests that it should do: It informs others when a worker “will return” to his/her worksite during a given day. While making a simple Twitter or Facebook post with their information could be easily enough done, Will Return provides consumers with a more visually appealing way to relay this information. “Flipping” the “will return” sign reveals an “Open, Come In,” welcoming sign; this virtual sign can also be shared through social media sites or through basic emailing. This displaying of a “Will Return” sign is really the only feature of this appropriately named app. Therefore, for consumers who are not really in control of their own working hours or who have no real reason to be sharing such information via social media outlets, Will Return is not a very applicable app.
Appearance and Layout:
Will Return’s strongest asset is definitely its appearance. The display clock is exactly like what a vintage “will return” clock would look like, only in virtual form. Moving the clock’s arms to select an appropriate “will return” time is easily done, as is sharing the clock with others in a social network. While navigating through Will Return is not entirely intuitive (various patterns of tapping on the iOS screen are what direct users to other screens/options within the app), a complete set of directions is neatly outlined on the iTunes store page for the app. A quick glance through these directions tells users all that they need to know, and I found that I was easily able to navigate through Will Return once I had gone through each of its features just a couple of times.
Will Return is priced at $0.99 in the iTunes store. While it is arguable that this app does provide a unique service, it is also equally arguable that Will Return’s feature isn’t really great enough to justify having to pay for it. Overall, it’s a charming and easy-to-use app, but it simply isn’t a very practical one.
Will Return iPhone app requires iOS 6.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.
