Tanaholic: Written iPhone App Review
Ahh, the warmth of spring is finally upon us (for some). This means it’s time to start thinking about bathing suits and beaches. After a cold and dark winter, what’s better than catching a few rays and putting a bit of shade back into your skin?
Tanaholic, developed by MegaDotNet, LLC, is the perfect app for tanning buffs. Whether you’re looking for a simple session timer or a full-fledged tanning logbook, this app has everything you’ll need.
Concept and Functionality:
You might not think that something like tanning would need an app, but this is one of those cases where technology can be extremely useful. Though I’m not a sunbather, I’ve experienced the pain of unintentionally baking in the rays, and an app like Tanaholic definitely would’ve helped to prevent clearing the local store of their aloe vera supply.
The main screen of Tanaholic is extremely useful and shows current weather information without having to open various apps. From cloud cover to temperature and UV index, everything you need for outdoor tanning is right there in the app. There’s also a useful timer that allows you to keep track of rotations, which makes for an even tan and keeps you from looking like a color swatch.
If you prefer to hit the salon instead of the great outdoors, Tanaholic includes a handy salon locator. This is perfect for those who travel or are just looking for somewhere new to check out. Lastly, for those who would like to keep track of time spent tanning, there’s a useful session tracker that allows you to input the amount of time tanning in a booth, in the sun, or getting a spray-on treatment.
Tanaholic is packed with features to help you sunbathe safely. Among them is the ability to take sample photos of your tan to see how you’re progressing toward your desired shade. No longer will you spend time in front of the mirror wondering if your latest session was too much or not enough.
Everything you can keep track of is stored conveniently in a log, including the sample photo taken to compare tan progress. You can even share log entries with others via Facebook, Twitter, SMS, and email.
While Tanaholic includes a disclosure on the app’s splash screen saying that it is for entertainment purposes only and that tanning carries a risk of skin cancer, I feel like the app should be limited to users who are 17+. This is purely a personal opinion, though, but I do think there should be an educational page that further explains the hazards included with tanning.
Tanaholic is free to download from the App Store. Every feature is available without the need for an in-app purchase, which makes this one of the best tanning apps available for the price. Tan wisely!
Tanaholic is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 6.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
