Rockstar – The Game: Written & Video iPhone Game Review
Music games are great, especially when they’re played on devices that allow the use of headsets. There’s nothing better than rocking out and earning high scores at the same time.
Rockstar – The Game, developed by AMOK Circus, shifts the perspective of the musical life to the crowd instead of the stage. Collect panties, records, and achievements as you crowd surf your way to rock ‘n roll fame.
Concept and Gameplay:
Most music games involve playing an instrument or being able to identify a song. What about all that screaming noise in the background called the fans? The time has come to experience things from the crowds perspective. The whole goal of Rockstar is to crowd surf for as long as you possibly can. Along the way, you’ll encounter groupies and swarming masses of fans.
One of the things I want to mention right off the bat is the fact that there’s a fairly strong presence of profanity in the game. Not only do a few of the soundtrack songs include f-bombs, but the main character of the game also tosses out a hearty farewell when he breaks free from a groupie’s grasp. Therefore, I definitely don’t recommend this game for younger players.
Profanity aside, Rockstar is actually a pretty fun game to play. As you crowd surf over thousands of screaming fans, you can collect various kinds of panties and vinyl records. These trophies can be seen as rewards and are housed in the game’s Hall of Fame. The soundtrack music is very good, too, which is always a plus in a music game.
One of the best things Rockstar has to offer is a significant number of trophies you can earn. In total, there are 15 different panties to collect and 9 vinyl records to earn. In the case of panty collecting, not every groupie hands over their undergarments to any random rockstar passing over them.
Also, Rockstar features the optional use of your device’s accelerometer to move your musician around the crowd. The longer you play, the more obstacles you’ll have to dodge in order to keep on rockin’. Touching your finger on the screen also helps to move your character across the crowd faster.
Lastly, Rockstar is universally compatible with both iPhone and iPad, and features Game Center integration.
Rockstar can be downloaded from the App Store for $0.99. Considering the game is universally compatible, this is definitely a great deal. As I mentioned earlier, definitely try to keep this away from younger players as a result of strong language.
Rockstar – The Game is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
