Knome : name recall: Written iPhone App Review
At times, I feel I am terrible remembering names of new acquaintances. People come up, introduce themselves, and 5 seconds later I have absolutely no idea what they said their name was. Awful, isn’t it? Fortunately, (and you probably guessed this was coming), there is an app for that! Titled Knome : name recall, by developer Adam Preiner, it is available for $0.99 through iTunes.
Here’s the basic idea behind Knome is to help you with name + face recognition to keep you from looking like a fella with poor memory. For each person added, you can add First name, Last name, a little Note, a Photo, along with relationsihp status (Father, Mother, Brother, StepFather, Niece, Partner, Ex-Partner, Primary School, TAFE, client, Vacation, etc). Photos are either pulled from your contacts, your album or you can take one right away. Then, once you have built up a nice network of contacts on Knome, you can start adding new people based on how they relate to others you have already added. This creates a nice ‘web’ of relationships, allowing you to (hopefully) better recall names and important info along the way. I was impressed by the huge number of categories for different individuals in Knome-there is a lot of options to list people under! Furthermore, I really liked the customization options for the built-in lists. You can edit and more through the Configuration tab at the top of the screen. It does seem like a lot of work just to help you remember names. However, for those of us that need a little extra help, this might be just the app!
Knome rocks a smart, slick layout on the iOS. I was impressed by the graphics, including the memorable gnome charatacter the frequents the app pages. Being able to choose various photos, either from your own album or taking ‘em, or even from Facebook, is a nice touch. Be sure to check out the developer’s nice YouTube video showing off this app!
Is Knome worth it, at $0.99? It really depends how much you want to invest, both money and time, into helping yourself remember names. At the end of the day, if this app does the trick for you when it comes to keeping friends, family, acquaintances and more straight, than go for it! Keep in mind that this app needs the user to add quite a few friends and the like to make it worthwhile-with a photo, name and more if you really want to take full advantage of Knome. Knome is a well designed app for a common problem, but it will require quite a bit of work on your part to get it totally setup from the start.
Knome : name recall iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad devices. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
