JED-GO Untouchable: Written & Video iPad App Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we like any game that can challenge us. We like any title that presents us with a puzzle in arcade form, especially if that game happens to come with a ton of upgrades, a wealth of weapons, and enough zombies to shoot in the face. Thankfully, today’s topic JED-GO Untouchable by JED Games brings all of this to the table and more, and with a free price tag, to boot. It’s a phenomenal entry into the genre, and for our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
The idea behind JED-GO Untouchable is pretty simple. There’s a complex plot going on beneath it (something about zombies and the need to shoot them all as quickly as possible) but essentially, you’ll spend all of your time guiding a jet-pack enabled cowboy around the levels, letting him shoot those pesky turned-ones until they fall over dead. All of this is done to protect three brains at the far end of the level. If these brains fall, you fail the level. All in all, this means you’ll need to expertly weigh your time, precisely pegging those that need to be hit when they need to be hit, or else you’ll quickly find yourself overrun with hungry green personages.
Along the way, you’ll collect in-game currency which you can then use to purchase upgrades and guns—both of which are important. The game gives you plenty of options to choose from, and honestly, this is what kept us coming back. The gameplay is rock-solid and endlessly fun, but the upgrades system offers more than enough complexity and just-one-more drive to keep any game entertained.
Graphics and Design
But if we had to pick something other than the upgrades system that kept us returning, we’d have have to side with the graphics. The game is cute, iPhone and iPad-ready, and gorgeous all the way around. The graphics are somewhere between Plants vs. Zombies and Red Dead Redemption, which makes for a fun time out. Not only that, but there’s a lot more complexity involved here than originally meets the eye. For instance, you can hit zombies in the head to push them back, or “crit” them to serve up some additional damage. And, of course, the upgrades trees are phenomenal. All in all, it’s a tight package with a gorgeous wrapper.
And at the end of the day, JED-GO Untouchable is a free, complex, and good-looking arcade game available on the App Store for free. With that in mind, there’s no reason in the world not to give it a go. If you’re looking for a good time out for the afternoon, or just a way to kill a few minutes in the queue, then we have nothing better to recommend than JED-GO Untouchable.
JED-GO Untouchable requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
