Your Travel Dream: Written iPhone App Review
We like to travel. We’ve mentioned this a couple of times here on the iPhone App Review, but we figure it deserves repeating. Not only that, but we feel like one of the best parts of modern travel is being able to take your same, trusted iPhone along for the ride! With that in mind, how about doing some exploration via your iPhone while all still in your armchair? With Your Travel Dream you can do exactly that. The app brings you a slice of the planet each day, including pictures, text, and unique music. Got your interest piqued? Then continue on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
At its core, Your Travel Dream is one of those concept-heavy apps that attempts to enrich your life in a subtle way using nothing but your iPhone. And for the most part, it does very well with it, we have to admit.
The app serves up a daily smorgasbord of photos, information and sounds from places all around the world. The music is local to the scenery, the photos are of course indicative of the region, and the text usually explains why it is that you aught to visit. In other words, by simply popping into Your Travel Dream on a daily basis, you’ll be catching a rapid glimpse into another portion of the globe.
We like the concept a lot, though we absolutely cannot recommend this app as a travel guide. Then again, it’s not quite marketed as such. Rather, it’s an outright dream app. That is to say, it helps you daydream about areas you might like to see, more than help you actually arrive and thrive once you’re there.
Design and Graphics
Sadly, this is where we have to dock Your Travel Dream some serious points: We love the app’s presentation, especially the pushed-daily format. We also like how easy it is to operate, requiring absolutely no effort from the user to get it rolling. That being said, we just want more! We’d like more photos to begin with, that way we can daydream even just a bit longer. More text might be nice, though we don’t think we’d require it. Still, some additional video, or maybe some links out to additional information would go a long way toward making this a very app-focused application, as opposed to a world-focused one.
Still, considering the app will only cost you a buck in the iTunes App Store, we can hardly knock it for value. If you’re looking for a quick and convenient way to explore portions of the world from your armchair, and want to save some money on it, too, then you’re in good hands: Your Travel Dream is a solid recommendation.
Your Travel Dream requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
