Topzie: Video and Written iPhone Game Review
What’s better than playing a fun game on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad? Playing a fun game with other people, of course! I’m a huge fan of multiplayer games because they not only allow me to team up with friends or other players, but it’s nice to compete against real people.
Topzie, developed by Brinked Media, is a free new multiplayer game that is a unique combination of air hockey and soccer. Whether you want to play a quick game of 1v1 or manage your own custom game, Topzie is perfect for gamers who are looking for a cool new game to play.
Concept and Gameplay:
When you first open Topzie, you need to create an account in order to play. This is a simple and painless process involving a username, email address, and password. Once that’s completed, there are a number of ways to start a Topzie game. If you’re looking to jump right into a game, then “Quick Play” mode is the way to go. The game automatically matches you with another player and starts a new game.
If you’re interested in socializing, the lobby is where you need to be. Here you can chat with other Topzie players or recruit people for a custom game. The “Games” tab is where you can view a list of game rooms other players have created. It’s very easy to join a room or even create your own. If you’d like to host a room, simply give it a name, optionally lock it down with a password, and define the number of players and duration of the game. There can be a maximum of 4 players on each team in custom games.
Once you’ve started either a Quick Play game or a custom match, you’re taken to the field. Your pusher is controlled by placing a finger on either side of the screen and moving it in the direction you want the pusher to travel (basically a virtual joystick). The object of Topzie is to hit the ball/puck into the opponent’s goal. As you push the puck, you can tap the screen with another finger to “kick” it, which adds quite a bit of speed to your puck. Be careful not to kick it into your own goal, though!
One of the coolest things about Topzie is the amount of customization within games. If you create a game, you can drag and drop ready players to create teams of four. Not only that, but if someone happens to quit while the game is in progress, you can recruit a ready spectator to fill their spot. Forget about losing a game due to unbalanced teams! Plus you can chat with fellow players while in-game.
There’s also a global leaderboard, which shows you the statistics for the top 50 players in the game. You can see their level, playing record, and overall rating. This is a great way to get to know your competition and ultimately strive to topple them with your Topzie greatness.
As far as features I’d like to see added to Topzie, Game Center integration and achievements would be a neat addition to the game. Other than that, this is definitely a stable and playable game. The developers promise more features in future updates, which is always a great thing to see.
Topzie is free to download and it’s very easy to learn how to play. This is definitely a game of skill and practice definitely helps. If you’re looking for a fun game to play with friends or strangers, I definitely recommend giving Topzie a try. Don’t forget that Topzie is a brand-new game, so any feedback you can provide via an App Store review will definitely help the developers.
Topzie is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
