MacBOOM!: Written iPhone App Review
MacBOOM! is an application available for the iPad. The point of MacBOOM! is to provide you with a fully functioning and intuitive magazine app. MacBOOM! is a magazine that exclusively cover Apple-related products. The iPad version of the magazine has some great features, a great design, and even some bonuses to make it more valuable to you than a standard magazine.
To begin, MacBOOM! comes with a free preview issue. This issue comes with articles on Retina Display, Macs, iPod Touches, iPad Mini, Firewalls, and even some apps. MacBOOM! covers SyncSpace, PlugBug, Pixelmator, DeathSpank, and Nova. Those are some apps and products that are made for iOS Devices.
The features of MacBOOM! are pretty well thought out and can really give you insight into Apple products. The app features in-depth articles and analysis on Apple products, software, and apps. The app also gives you access to up-to-date news, and expert reviews. The best part of the app is the interactivity of the app. You can turn pages by swiping, tap for more info, and access video and audio. Now that’s one thing you cannot do with a physical magazine!
The design of the app alright. The actual app isn’t that well thought out, but the magazine itself is superb. I really like how the articles flow within the app, and how you can see how many pages you have left. As I mentioned above, the app has features that let you scroll, tap, bookmark, see number of pages, etc. These features help enliven the design and feel of the app.
Overall the app has a lot of great content, solid features, and a functional design that makes it easy to read and explore the MacBOOM!’s magazine. The app has lot’s of features that are useful and can make reading the magazine a better experience. The design of the app also helps enhance the content. The content is very well written and can provide you with expert advice on apps and other add-ons. In total, the app is above-average.
The last thing I will mention is that the app isn’t a free ride. While the app does give you one free issue, others must be purchased individually or as part of a subscription. This rate is $1.99 per monthly issue, or $0.99 per issue with a subscription. This actually compares pretty well with the cost of comparable print magazines, which can cost up to $6.00 per monthly issue. Give the price and all the advice and content they give you, it might even be considered a good deal. Great app, and certainly worth checking out, but keep the ongoing cost in mind.
MacBOOM! is compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
