Disco Baby: Written & Video iPhone Game Review
Music games are always fun to play on your iDevice, and once in awhile something truly unique makes its way to the App Store. What’s great is that this particular game isn’t only entertaining and fun to play, but that it also has an educational element, as well.
Concept and Gameplay:
One of the requirements of being an app reviewer is that I have to be as honest as possible. I have to admit that the idea of a game like Disco Baby made me worried that it wouldn’t be a decent game, but it’s actually an entertaining game to play. Featuring multiple mini games , cool music, and great graphics, Disco Baby is the perfect game for those who are looking for something truly unique.
From the main screen, you can customize your baby any way you’d like. This includes details like hair color, eye color, and even the color of their diaper. You can also choose between a male or female baby. There’s no way to save the customizations, though, so you’ll have to redo them every time you start playing Disco Baby.
The first of three mini games, “Remember My Game”, requires you to memorize and repeat color patterns on the dance floor. You have three lives and each successful completion adds to your score. “Top Numbers” adds an educational aspect to Disco Baby and is perfect for younger audiences. You can choose math problems to show on the screen and each correct answer helps Disco Baby rock out. Lastly, “Dance With Me” lets you go through all of the moves your Disco Baby can do.
One of the things I like the most about Disco Baby is the music. Though I’m not a fan of disco, this is definitely a game with great tunes. After all, this should be a given seeing as it’s basically a game about music and dancing.
Another great feature is variety. As I mentioned before, the three mini games are very different from each other, so it’s pretty difficult to become bored while playing Disco Baby. The educational math game surprised me the most, but definitely in a good way.
As far as suggestions for improvements, I think Game Center integration would definitely be useful for those who use it. Also, the option to save your character’s customizations would ease the frustration of having to redo them every time you opened Disco Baby.
Disco Baby can be purchased from the App Store for only $0.99, which is a very reasonable price for such a fun and entertaining game. It’s also universally compatible with both iPhone and iPad, which is always a great thing!
Disco Baby is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
