addLib U: Written iPhone App Review
One of the things I’ve noticed about photography apps is that there’s a new trend developing. Instead of apps that allow you to take photos and edit them, there are more apps which focus on using your photos in other creative ways such as creating digital scrapbooks.
Concept and Functionality:
One of my favorite aspects of addLib U is how easy it is to use. Sometimes there’s nothing more frustrating than a photography app that requires you to spend more time learning how to use it than actually doing so. This definitely isn’t the case with this amazing app.
Finding your way around is a breeze thanks to a quick and helpful guide which takes you through everything addLib U can do. Naturally you can exit the guide, but I always suggest taking the time to go through tutorials and guides when they’re available.
addLib U allows you to create scrapbook-like albums either automatically or manually, depending on how much control you want over the project. If you choose to automatically create an album, the app imports your Camera Roll photos and places them in ten individual templates. You can scroll through each template to see which one you like the most, which is great for picky folks like myself. You can even edit the template’s text fields, adding a bit of customization.
If you choose to create an album manually, you’re able to select which photos to use (up to four). addLib U even allows you to resize photos, which is handy if you want to focus on a specific part of a picture. Once you’re satisfied with the four photos you’ve selected, the app creates templates for you to browse, edit, and share.
Even though it’s a new app, addLib U has quite a few useful features. For example, I love the fact that addLib U automatically creates graphic albums and no two are the same (even if you use the same photos).
Another cool feature is the ability to take photos within the app (if you manually create an album). Lastly, you can easily share your creations on your device’s Camera Roll and via popular social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and Instagram.
Though addLib U is a very creative photography app, there are still a couple of features I’d like to see. First, the ability to import photos from Facebook, Flickr, or other services (or even individual albums on your device) would be great. It would also be useful to allow customizing not only text, but graphics and colors of albums.
Currently you can buy addLib U for $1.99 as part of a launch sale, but it’s regularly priced at $2.99. It’s definitely geared toward users who are looking to add a scrapbook touch to their photos. Another great use would be to quickly and easily create event fliers which can be shared directly from your device.
addLib U is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
