VIATube: Written iPhone App Review
When we’re not working our butts off to bring you some of the best new iPhone and Android reviews, we’re typically found on YouTube watching videos that entertain us, or otherwise grab our interest. However, that fun has to end when we walk away from the desk. Or, at least it used to! Now, thanks to an app called VIATube by developer Richinfo we can now take the whole show with us on the road. The app makes it incredibly easy to cache, store, and preserve YouTube videos that you enjoy, then watch them Walkmen style on the go. For our full review of this video compliment, you need only to look beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
The basic concept behind VIATube looks something like this: If you really enjoy YouTube, then you likely spend a whole lot of your time trawling for good vids. All this effort results in you seeing a funny clip, and then hucking it off into the backwaters of your memory as soon as you leave the computer. But, what if you could take that video with you? What if your iPhone could cache any YouTube clip, then save it onboard so you can watch it in-app no matter where you are?
With VIATube, that’s exactly what you’ll get. The app is capable of storing any video you like, and even comes with a handy number of prefabricated filters to help you search through the rough to find the diamonds. Want to hook the whole thing up to your television? Not a problem, and with continuous playback, you can simply kickback and let the playlists roll directly from your iPhone. Truly, it’s a unique way to expand your overall YouTube experience on the iPhone, taking it into whole new directions.
Design and Interface
The app also happens to look pretty good, and comes with the aforementioned number of presorted filtering mechanisms that we enjoy. These filters allow you to tap a few buttons, and then receive instant media pertaining more specifically to your tastes. In this way, you can quickly find funny clips, movie trailers, short films, or anything else that you might like. You’ll also have full access to your playlists simply by logging in. In this way, the app makes it a cinch to save a boatload of videos, then take the whole shebang with you on the road during the morning commute.
We like VIATube a lot, though we have to admit, we’re still not tickled pink to pay three dollars for it. That’s a lot to ask, even for an app that takes our YouTube activities to new heights. Still, if you’d like to play around with VIATube, it does cost loess than a single Starbucks latte. Furthermore, there’s a free version available for a trial run.
VIATube requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
