Space Settlers: Written and Video iPhone Game Review
No one truly knows what the future holds, but it sure is fun to speculate. Sci-fi games are great for those who love the idea of intergalactic space travel, living on other planets, and even space warfare. Who knows if any of us will be around to see such things, but it’s still entertaining to let one’s imagination run wild.
Space Settlers, developed by Han Zhicai, is a new strategic online multiplayer space game. Centered around the creation and establishment of human colonies on individual planets, you’ll have to build and defend your fortress while advancing your base through various technological ages.
Concept and Gameplay:
Space Settlers is centered around the God Particle, the discovery of dark matter, and the ancient people of Terra. Future civilizations use dark energy crystals as their primary energy source, waging war with other planets so they can obtain more of it.
While Space Settlers can be compared to other “build and defend” games, what really sets it apart is that you’re fighting over planets instead of castles. A very detailed tutorial guides beginners through every aspect of the game, meaning you’ll spend less time learning and ore time developing your industry and defenses.
Attacking other players is done through building chariots with various boosts and capabilities. These chariots are customizable using different design blueprints and you can even refit chariots with over 100 available accessories.
Forget about fighting alone, though, thanks to a strong online community and organized legions which can cooperatively occupy planets and fight together. Players can add others as friends and strategize via chat.
Space Settlers is packed with a ton of cool features, which is always a good thing because it means that the game won’t get old anytime soon. From the ability to colonize multiple planets to building the strongest industry possible, you’ll get as much out of Space Settlers as you put into it.
Like many MMO strategy games, you’re able to send supplies to fellow allied players. If you’re the warfare type, there’s an automatic enemy locator which makes the process a whole lot easier.
Another neat feature is the ability to have up to four user accounts. Currently there’s only one game server available, but I’m sure that’ll be expanded as Space Settlers becomes even more popular.
One thing I do want to mention is that I encountered a problem when I started the game without creating an account. Eventually you encounter a mission which requires you to create an account, and users with email addresses over 18 characters won’t be able to complete it.
A free MMO game as great as Space Settlers is definitely a deal. Naturally you have the option to purchase boosts for real money, but the game is playable without doing so. Zip to the App Store at warp speed and get ready to wage war in space!
Space Settlers is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
