Scripts Pro: Written & Video iPad App Review
Have you ever wanted a professional screen writing app for the iOS? Perhaps you have had the perfect movie idea but didn’t have the right writing app to put your ideas down on. Or, maybe you just needed the convenience of a mobile screen writing app to jot down your concepts on the go. Either way, Scripts Pro, from developer Inkless Ideas is here on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch!
Boot up Scripts Pro, then select either to import existing scripts or create a new one. The import option is integrated with Dropbox, iTunes, and History, which is super useful. Even more so, Scripts Pro is compatible with the major script writing format types, both Celtx and Final Draft 8 document types. Once you have loaded a script, editing it is a snap with the awesome script-editor. There’s a handy sidebar with all the options and editable info on the file on the right of the screen. Bottom has your keyboard (hidable as needed) and the all-mighty Tab button. Right next to the Tab button is the important ‘Mode’ panel, where you can select from Dialogue, Characters, Action, Scene and more. Scripts are auto saved and backed up with iCloud, allowing syncing of scripts across devices running Scripts Pro. Finally, you can choose to export the finished products in a variety of formats, including the industry standard ones, along with TXT, HTML, and PDF. All in all, it’s a very polished app with a lot of awesome compatibility options for screenwriters on the go! I was thoroughly impressed with the array of well-designed features in Scripts Pro.
Scripts Pro looks slick. I tried it on the iPad and both browsing and editing were a snap. It’s also available on the iPod Touch and iPhone. It’s really easy to switch ‘types’ of text input, a must when you are editing a film screenplay. The handy ‘mode’ panel allows for this and it’s nicely designed to keep the creative juices flowing without worry about the layout of the app. Even more so, the awesome export options are easy to access and allow you to stay productive, no matter what format you want the final product in. There’s also a handy tutorial/intro page linked through the app online.
I loved Scripts Pro. It’s one of the first screenwriter apps on the iOS and it’s also one of the best priced. $9.99 may sound high, but keep in mind that some other similar apps sell for around 4 times as much on iTunes! The layout is slick and professional, the menu options are grand, and the array of compatibility and export options seal the deal. Check out Scripts Pro today for the iOS if you need a solid screenwriting app on the go!
Scripts Pro app is available on iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, running iOS 5.0 or later. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
