MyFace+ for Facebook: Written & Video iPhone App Review
Believe it or not, we use Facebook—In fact, we might just use it more than anyone else we know. We use it to take care of our personal lives, as well as the dozen different business accounts we monitor and interact with. All in all, this means we have a keen eye for anything that spiffies up the FailBook experience: We’re kidding about the “fail” bit. But what we aren’t kidding about is how darn good looking MyFace+ for Facebook is. The entirety of the app is gorgeous to look at, provides a more comfortable way to surf, and ultimately streamlines an already streamlined platform. Want our full thoughts? Then you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
We’ll paint it to you this way: MyFace+ intends to do one thing and one thing only—to take that curmudgeonly old Facebook layout, with all of its bloated FarmVille business, and turn it into a slick and smooth operator on the iPhone. It does this by first and foremost putting a vastly superior framework on top of everything. Simply sign in with your account, assign permissions, and instantly your Facebook feed(s) is improved. The layout is tight, concise, and a heck of a lot easier to read than you might be used to.
In addition to this, the app allows you to use gestures to control the way you use Facebook. Want to view comments on a post? Just slide the post to the left, and they are revealed. Slide to the right to view a sum total of likes and comments. Want to do something more? Tap, and the rest of Facebook’s options are revealed. It’s simple, intuitive, and gorgeously inventive on the iPhone.
Design and Interface
If it wasn’t already abundantly clear, we happen to think that MyFace+ is just about one of the best looking applications out there at the moment. It’s got a nice layout, some smooth gesture controls, an easy-on-the-eyes aesthetics, and all without sacrificing features. We do wish there were a few additions: Easier control over our multitude of pages, a quicker way to view how many comments are on a post, etc. However, all of these “complaints” are really just ways in which the concept of refining Facebook could be refined. They’re hardly more than niggles, and MyFace+ still adds up to an incredible experience.
Sure, you could use the native Facebook app for free. So with that in mind, we’ll say this: If you’re looking for a smarter way to Facebook, MyFace+ will only cost a dollar. That’s a pittance to ask for what it’s offering, and at the end of things, that’s easily worth a whole lot more in our eyes.
MyFace+ for Facebook requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
