Magisto: Written iPhone App Review
Over the years we have had the distinct pleasure of working with quite a number of social media applications. We’ve also had the enjoyment of dealing with quite a few video editors. However, very rarely have we had the chance to sit down with an app that so aptly combines both as Magisto by developer SightEra. In fact, it’s just about one of the slickest, best looking, and most useful apps we’ve seen all year. For our full review of this Instagram meets YouTube concoction, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
The overall idea behind Magisto isn’t actually all that revolutionary at first glance. The app allows you to shoot videos from your iPhone, edit them together, throw a popular tune on top, and then theme it all with a set aesthetic—it’s sort of like Instagram filters, only a lot more in-depth. Then again, that does make it sound quite good: What we mean is that all of this could be had elsewhere, though Magisto does it all nicely and with a tight packaging.
So what makes Magisto truly a magical offering? To put it simply, it’s the one-touch video editing. We aren’t kidding here. If you load your videos into Magisto, press the magic button, and then let it process, the app will pull the best bits of your videos and compile them into one, slick and professional looking video—and in seconds! It’s really quite maddening to watch, but in a good way. So if you’re like us and you’re absolutely sick of video editing on your iPhone, but still want to impress your friends with your videos, then Magisto is the easiest (and absolute best) way out of the bind.
Design and Interface
It’s really not often that we get to say this, so we’re going to do it now with some particular relish: Magisto is one of the best looking applications we have ever seen. From the ground up it’s intuitive, it’s easy to navigate, and it simply looks good on the eyes. In fact, we like it a fair bit better than we like the photo-oriented Instagram. All in all, it’s an award winning interface that’s backed by an even more award winning bit of artificial intelligence. We can’t get over how well that editor works, which is why we’re mentioning it again.
Guys, this one is free. To download your movies for safekeeping you’ll need to pay a nominal fee, but aside from this, you have no reason not to grab it. If you make a habit of sending your friends videos, and want to ensure the end results are gorgeous from the ground up, then we can hardly recommend anything over this incredible app. It earns a solid recommendation from us.
Magisto requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
