kleek Facebook reader: Written iPhone App Review
Over the years, we’ve seen more than our fair share of new social media options. These are those brave souls that decide to take on the big two, Facebook and Twitter. They want to reinvent the wheel, and more often than not, it just doesn’t quite work out. What’s a much better idea? Do what kleek Facebook reader by developer Neue Mediengesellschaft has done—take your Facebook feed and improve it! The end results are promising, and though they’ll need a bit of work yet to be entirely useful, it’s a brilliant start. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break.
Concept and Functionality
As stated, kleek Facebook reader seeks not to have you swap from Facebook or Twitter to its own sheltered halls, but rather to guide you into a more zen-like Facebook experience. It does this by removing all of the clutter, leaving you with a more concise panorama of your friends’ comments and posts. For instance, you can filter the entirety of your Facebook in a variety of ways, including links, videos, comments, photos, etc. In this way, it’s one heck of a lot simpler to just get a quick glance at what area your friends are blowing up.
Additionally, kleek Facebook reader makes it incredibly easy to tweak what shows up in your feeds. You can tell it what apps to leave out, what friends to include (or not include) and generally everything else you’d like to see regularly. On top of all of this, the app also integrates SMS and eMail with Facebook Statuses, allowing you to get at all three with a single push of a button. It’s really quite a marvelous idea, and though you might not realize it, having a more aesthetically pleasing filter for your Facebook feed can be a real timesaver.
Interface and Design
In fact, our only real complaint with the app comes in the form of its design. It’s an extremely valiant first effort, and we commend the developers a great deal for the strides they’ve already made. That being said, we found the filtering options included just a tad hard to get used to initially. This could have just been us, but either way, we also feel the concept can be stretched more: As-is, Kleek Reader offers a somewhat improved way to view your Facebook feeds. However, with a little more ingenuity and forethought, we feel it could completely reinvent the way we spend time with the social website.
At the end of the day, though, kleek Facebook reader is still a phenomenal value, costing only a dollar in the App Store. This is a bargain even now, and as future updates roll along with enhanced layouts, more features (and more reasons to jump onboard) that price tag will only become more golden.
kleek Facebook reader requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
