Thanks to cloud file storage, it’s easier than ever to access photos and documents on multiple devices. However, sometimes we have way too many files scattered around the digital universe. This is where a useful and well-designed file browser and manager comes in handy.
iFile Browser, developed by Beleela, is a feature-packed productivity tool that aims to simplify your digital life. The ability to sync with Dropbox and iCloud definitely makes it a worthy investment for users who are keen on digital consolidation.
Concept and Functionality: [Rating: 4/5]
One thing I would like to clear up right away is the fact that iFile Browser doesn’t give you access to every file on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Instead, it’s designed to allow more control over common files like photos, documents, songs, and videos.
iFile Browser is easy to set up, but it might take you awhile to learn your way around the app. If you find yourself scratching your head, there’s a detailed PDF guide located in the Settings tab. You can even print the guide so it can be used as a handy reference without having to access it in the app.
Simple functions such as cutting, copying, and pasting files are located at the top of the screen, as well as options to create folders, Zip files, and import photos from your device. You can also easily view files located in directories at the bottom half of the screen. I’m a huge fan of apps that put everything you need in one place, and iFile Browser does an excellent job of keeping things fairly simple.
There’s even quick access to your Dropbox account, should you choose to allow access to it from within the iFile Browser app. This is a great way for Dropbox users to access their files from a different app, and it’s possible that iFile Browser could eliminate your need for the official Dropbox app altogether.
Features: [Rating: 4.5/5]
Perhaps the most useful feature which separates iFile Browser from Dropbox is the ability to create compressed Zip files and share them. The process is as easy as navigating to the folder containing the files you’d like to compress, selecting which files to include, naming the final Zip file, and pressing the “Zip” button. This is great for users who want to share a large number of files or photos (especially via email). If creating Zip files wasn’t handy enough, iFile Browser can also decompress them, along with other compressed file types such as .tar and .rar.
As I mentioned before, Dropbox integration is a huge plus. However, you can still use the app effectively even without syncing your Dropbox account. The app even syncs with iCloud, giving you an extra means of backing up important files and folders.
iFile Browser is great for not only viewing photos, listening to music, and watching videos, though. You can also use it to read Word documents and PDF files. Lastly, you can quickly and easily print files via AirPrint. iFile Browser is truly the Swiss Army knife of productivity apps!
Value: [Rating: 4/5]
Though the price ($2.99) is a little high, iFile Browser is a great app for people who love to have complete control over media and documents. It’s even designed to work on both iPhone and iPad.
Remember, this app doesn’t allow you to access system files on your device. Even if you’re not looking for a comprehensive file manager, iFile Browser is perfect for users who frequently compress and decompress files. Also, you’ll need to have iOS 6.0 or above installed on your device in order for iFile Browser to work.
