Yoga for Weight Loss: Written iPad App Review
We’ve always had a real soft spot in our hearts for Yoga. Maybe it’s the couple of years we spent dabbling in Buddhism, but we’ve always liked the idea of stretching and moving our way to a stronger inner peace. Now, thanks to Yoga for Weight Loss by developer Saagra we have a way to take that same energy and drive, and then turn it into real weight loss—or so it’s been claimed, anyway. The app contains a wealth of fat-burning and peace-finding knowledge, all of which is kept neatly on your iPad. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
Obviously, Yoga for Weight Loss is an app about yoga—if that weren’t already abundantly clear. However, the app has differentiated itself from the wealth of other yogi-related apps out there by being one of the only ones we can name to help with weight loss. The idea is pretty simple: Yoga for Weight Loss offers a series of yogic exercises and traditions designed to turn all of that fat into usable energy and trimming vitality. This is thanks to a series of full-on illustrations and 3D models that guide you from beginning to end, demonstrating each step of the exercise alongside detailed narration. Oh, and yes, the narration is your classically calming sort—just as we like it.
All in all, starting up with the app is as simple as purchasing it and then selecting a course from the list. We appreciated this immensely, as well as the very detailed diagrams and models that are included. From the ground up, the devs have made it very easy to get involved, and that’s a good thing.
Design and Graphics
It’s hard to find much to complain about where the app’s design is concerned. It offers a very simplistic interface, which means everything you need can be found in only a few clicks. As stated, the 3D models are also gorgeous and informative. However, we might have appreciated an additional information panel. This could have been just a single slide-out containing a bit more info about the process of losing weight via yoga, or perhaps on yoga itself. This would help the newcomers, and perhaps help some of us more rusty practitioners to dive in again.
Here’s where we have to put on our hard journalism hats: Obviously, the benefit you get from Yoga for Weight Loss largely depends on you, the individual. It’s not a clear cut solution to any weight problems you may be having, though it may help. Aside from this, it’s not an FDA cleared way to get slim. That being said, it’s relatively cheap, it’s fun, and it’s incredibly calming. And after all, what better way to lose some pounds than by getting limber, having fun, saving money, and finding a bit calmer a lifestyle than you had before?
