TapStartup: Written iPhone App Review
Think you’ve got the wicked fast tapping skills to make it to the top of the heap? Check yourself before you wreck yourself with the new TapStartup iPhone app from SentzLab. This snappy title puts your productivity to the test.
You’re the boss in TapStartup, and it’s your job to keep your workers focused on the task at hand. Those lazy bums may try to nod off. Give them a tap and get them back to work, pronto. Only workers who are wide awake can make you any money, and you lose money on snoozing bodies.
Of course, there’s much more to this than tap tap tapping! You also want to make sure each worker has an adequate amount of rest (or external stimuli) to avoid the one way train to crazy town. Watch each worker’s tolerance meter. If it goes red, so does your employee, with disastrous results.
There are, naturally, some things you can do to keep those minions working, like bribing them with lunch and installing more water coolers, energy drink machines and coffee machines. It’s a fine balance, that takes a knack for management.
I found TapStartup instantly addictive and a ton of fun. There are two neat modes, a career mode where you earn points (and stars!) for finishing levels in record time, and a survival mode where you can see what you’re really made of. GameCenter integration links you to a global leader board, where you can aim for global domination.
My only complaint is that it’s almost too easy to get good at this game. The developers should consider adding a bit more challenge to the game set up, maybe an elite mode or other high stakes features to make it a bit more interesting in the long run.
Layout & Design:
The TapStartup iPhone app is laid out quite simply, but the graphics are deceptively complex. Each level you play is a bit more difficult, but, as your clout rises, so do your surroundings, which is a whimsical touch of fancy sure to go far in any drab workplace.
The best example of how the devs really took the time to create a well-rounded app is when the workers go postal, doing things like leaping from tall windows and slamming computers over their heads. It’s a bit morbid, but well done, none the less.
This slice of capitalism at its best can be yours for the low price of $.99. I think that’s a heck of a steal. This game is fun, easily addictive, runs well, and has a lot of potential. If you’re looking for the next simple title to get wrapped up in, look no further.
TapStartup iPhone app requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
