Reviocam: Written & Video iPhone Photo App Review
In Japan it’s known as “Purikura” here in the USA it’s known as goofy mall booth photos, but no matter what you call it the truth will out. This super cute style makes photos and videos campy and irresistibly fun, and now you can make your own with Reviocam, a free app from Recruit Holdings Co. that lets you customize short videos to your heart’s content.
Why share boring videos without any special effects? You have no excuse now that Reviocam’s available for iOS. I took this app for a spin on my iPhone 5, and it was a blast. First, you create a log in. You can connect Reviocam to your Facebook or Twitter accounts if you’d like, or just sign up for the video sharing community via email.
Once you’re in, the Reviocam community is your play place. You can search and browse through cute, short videos to your heart’s content, commenting, liking and even sharing them. But the real fun starts when you use your own short videos, or capture your own with the app. As one shortcoming, the app only allows you to capture 15 seconds of video, which is a bit limiting.
After you’ve selected or captured a video, you can add cool elements, like filters, frames, stamps and effects, to the short video. Name it. Tag it. And share away!
Layout & Design:
I’m quite intrigued by Reviocam’s simple yet slightly feminine layout. It’s light pink, which I love, but it manages to be really subtle. Most of the app is in whites and grays, allowing the videos to be the stars, which is ideal.
Navigating the app is quite simple, thanks to a bottom tab design. I was a bit thrown off by the fact that the bottom tabs disappear when you scroll down, like on the home page. You have to go all the way back to the top to get your options back, which is just annoying. Otherwise, the app is just fine, and you can even customize the way you see the home page and lists of popular videos, as a wall or as a grid.
The features and effects in Reviocam are really quite fun. I wish there was an option to enter your own text, for example. But overall I was pleased.
With one sweet price tag (the app is free!) Reviocam is priced to move! Get this bad boy on your iOS device and get those memories on film while you can. I love the community feeling of this app, and think it’s an easy, practical way to spice up otherwise bland mobile videos. It also makes sharing quite simple, which is always nice. With a few tweaks, Reviocam could be an even better app.
Reviocam iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
