iShopps: Written & Video iPhone App Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we like to think that we’ve just about seen every form of social networking and social media app likely to emerge from the App Store. Then, something else comes along, and we have to reevaluate that position. Today’s example is the iPhone app iShopps, by developer Jusan. The app offers a brand new way to expand your shopping experience to the world, as well as your local Facebook troupe. If that sounds like a good day out, then go ahead and scroll down below the break to read our full review!
Concept and Functionality
The basic idea behind iShopps looks something like this: The app allows both retailers and shoppers to signup for an account. This account is used for a handful of very simple, and yet very effective things. First off the bat, users can snap a photo of something they’re trying on in the store, or see on the shelf. This is automatically added to the worldwide network of growing iShopps photos. Other users can see these photos, like them, comment on them, or even “love” them. This is tracked on those users’ profiles, and amounts to added social points—sort of like a clout system. In other words, users can share geotagged photos and shopping information with the world, and receive instant feedback.
Retailers are also free to do the same. This opens up an entire world of possibilities as far as self-promotion and daily updates go. And with the option to subscribe to a user’s feeds, you can very simply stay up-to-date with what a retailer is putting out, as well as what they’re featuring. All in all, iShopps is perhaps the best socially-minded shopping application that we know of to-date.
Design and Interface
The overall look of iShopps is rather good, as well. It’s sleek, slick, and takes very little effort to become accustomed to. In fact, we were rolling along rather smoothly in only a matter of minutes. However, while the app itself works quite well, like all new social media apps, iShopps suffers from a concerning lack of population. Until more users jump on the bandwagon, a lot of the benefits of the app (local hits and discussions about what’s in the stores) is lost. Still, there’s hope for a future population boom, which would add a great deal to what iShopps has to offer.
As stated, iShopps is one of the best—if not the only—truly fashion-oriented social media networks we can think of, especially on the iPhone. Still, the challenge is to convince readers to swap to iShopps with other, more diverse, albeit less focused, social sites like Pinterest out there. Then again, if you’re willing to be one of the early adopters of this fashion-studded app, you’ll find a lot to love, and a lot of good steals, too.
iShopps requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
