GazilliShapes: Written and Video iPad App Review
Teaching children can be just as fun as it is challenging, and apps like GazziliShapes are here to help. Part of a collection of top notch apps for early learners from GazziliWorld LLC, the new GazziliShapes iPhone app lets children enjoy the process of learning about shapes in a safe environment full of magical surprises and fun.
By placing shapes in everyday situations, the GazziliShapes iPhone app makes learning a snap. Children will advance from lesson to lesson, guided by an ever-cheerful narrator who guides them through the process of identifying shapes in a variety of scenes.
What shape is the pizza box? How about those cookies? Not only does this app provide clear direction, it also puts the theory of shapes in a day to day setting that’s sure to resonate with kids. They’ll be looking for shapes in their own rooms soon enough.
I’m also a fan of the use of bright colors, repetition and on-screen shape reminders that set children up for success at every turn in the GazziliShapes iPhone app.
There’s also a built-in, in-app reward page for added positive reinforcement. As children successfully complete each of the six GazziliShapes challenges, they’ll unlock shapes for the Gazzili Fun Page, a sheet starring the GazziliWorld cast of characters in a brilliant blue sky.
Layout & Design:
The bright, colorful pages of GazziliShapes are entirely kid friendly. While the drawing designs are quite simple, the neat animations and flourishes you find throughout the app are not. By keeping it simple, this app manages to be age-appropriate without being too simplistic.
It’s also a great way to reinforce children’s motor skills. They’ll be dragging, dropping, tapping and moving things all over the screen.
You can tell the design team put a lot of thought into making GazziliShapes kid-friendly. While there are links to additional games at the bottom of the main screen, they can only be accessed by parents entering a code. Likewise, the “Share” section is safely ensconced in the menu, accessible only by tapping on two tiny links.
A peppy soundtrack and adorable cast really round out the GazziliShapes app, which, to my delight, is universal, too.
GazziliShapes comes in under budget for me at $1.99. This is a seriously well-made application with a ton of curb appeal, that not only entertains and delights, but imparts important educational lessons along the way.
If you have an early learner and it’s time to tackle shapes, I highly recommend taking a look at GazziliShapes.
GazziliShapes requires iOS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
