fidoFOTO: Written iPhone App Review
Do you often find yourself taking a few snapshots of your puppy? Do you find yourself doing this perhaps a bit more than is normal, or than you think you should? If so, we’d first like to say that you’re not alone! In fact, so many people are puppy photographers these days that developer DMN Networks has even put out an app specifically for you: It’s called fidoFOTO, and it’s just about the perfect way to show off your dog’s natural charms through your iPhone and your social networks. For our full review, you need only to look below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
The idea behind fidoFOTO looks something like this: Essentially, the app is sort of a novelty camera designed for your furry child, but it’s not quite in the same category as other novelty camera utilities that we’ve seen before. For instance, it’s got a legitimately good interface, solid artistically inclined filters (think Instagram) and an unbridled dedication to doggy-themed graphics. You see, to use the app, you first snap a photo of your dog. Then, you apply filters and frames as you see fit. These frames are typically themed, and are then used in conjunction with a specific graphics set. For instance, you might suggest that your dog is about to beat the snot out of the viewer, or that your dog is instead a fashion model using the bits and pieces included. It’s wonderfully fun, and it’s so simple that even a two year old can do it—we’ve tested this theory. When you’re done, you also simply load the photo to any of your favorite social networking platforms. Overall, this makes it the perfect companion for a proud puppy owner with an iPhone.
Graphics and Design
The app, as mentioned, already happens to look pretty good. Why is this a big deal? Because to be honest, we don’t get to say it about these kinds of novelty toys much. It seems like every half-wit design gets hucked into this category, but fidoFOTO is simply not like this. The crop tool is marvelous, the sliding between filters is smooth like a baby’s butt, and the rest of the interface wreaks of professionalism. In other words, we love it, even though we hardly expected to.
In fact, our only real complaint with the app is its pricing. You see, fidoFOTO is completely free to give a go from the App Store. Beyond this point, though, you’ll need to pay for additional themed graphics packs. These cost a dollar a piece, which depending on how many you purchase, can stack up quickly. Still, if you’re always in need of new ways to show off your dog, then it’s easily worth the money invested. And as stated, this is perhaps the best app out there at the moment with which to show off your canine child.
fidoFOTO requires iOS 6.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
