Color Shining: Written & Video iPhone App Review
Color is the star of the new Color Shining app. And that much is clear from the first moment. When you load the app, a pre-loaded picture of a very pretty lady is queued up, highlighted by splashes of orange and yellow. You can play around with this pic, or get busy making your own memories things of wonder and beauty. It’s really quite easy.
The Color Shining iPhone app allows you to choose images from your camera roll collections, or use either of your iPhone’s cameras to capture shots on the spot. Once the image is loaded into the app, the fun really starts.
Choose a top color then choose a bottom color. And voila! Your image will display with varying grades of your two color choices. Looking for more of a monochromatic feel? Choose the same color for top and bottom. Want some deeper tones? Try brown. It turns out way cooler than you’d think. Try the adjustable saturation levels at the bottom of the pic for even more hands-on artistic direction.
Once the image is spruced up to your liking, Color Shining allows you to save edited versions of images to your camera roll or send them directly via email. I do wish the app had direct Facebook and Twitter access, but it is easy enough to add pics to those places from your camera roll.
Layout & Design:
The colorful way this app dresses up images is quite delightful, and so simple to accomplish that anyone can do it. In a nice touch, Color Shining allows you to zoom in and out of images right on the screen. Unfortunately, there isn’t really an option to save the image at your preferred zoom level, so when it goes out the whole pic is there, just so you know.
I also approve of the range of colors and tones. They look quite lovely on the iPhone 5’s retina display. The addition of a custom color creator option might be a simple yet impactful improvement.
For a special seasonal sale, the Color Shining iPhone app is available free of charge. There are some advertisements in the app, so while it isn’t appropriate for kids, you definitely owe it to yourself to check it out. In a matter of moments you can create interesting, colorful works of art from simple photographs you snap on your favorite iOS device. What’s not to love about that?
Color Shining iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
