Bubble Shooter 3.0: Written iPhone App Review
(Holiday Pack: $0.99)
A while back we had the distinct pleasure of reviewing a brand new arcade game for the iPhone and iPad called Bubble Shooter 3.0 by developer Addiktive Games. It offered a new color-matching and brick-breaking concept that we enjoyed to the umpteenth degree, despite the fact that it kicked our butts. Now, the devs are back with a brand spanking new Holiday Pack for us to dip into our egg nog. For our full review of this full-on extension to the original, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
For those not familiar with the original Bubble Shooter 3.0 concept, let us give you a quick rundown of how it all happens: In a way, it’s a lot like playing Tetris in reverse. Each level comes with a preloaded set of bubbles that start at the top of the level and then sink lower. As they go, you’ll need to shoot additional bubbles upward to meet the oncoming mass. Match up three or more colors (more gets you an increase in points) and you’ll be rewarded with some extra wiggle room and some change to take home.
This is the same concept that lives within the Holiday Pack, and we’re tickled pink—or should we say Christmas red?—about it. You’ll get all the same powerups, plus some unique and surprise additions, as well as a completely revamped graphical engine with a lot more holiday cheer. On top of all of this, the new Holiday Pack is simply a great addition, regardless of its relation to the Holidays. All in all, it’s a solid and fun way to distract yourself with a yuletide theme, as well as waste a few hours killing boredom while on the road to Grandma’s house.
Graphics and Design
Time to crack open the soft exterior of what you’ll find within the Holiday Pack’s graphics! As stated, everything has been given a yuletide facelift. Rather than bubbles, you’ll be shooting ornaments, and there’s a pleasing amount of snow and other wintry paraphernalia to be found laying about. Aside from this, you’ll have the same great aiming mechanic, the same difficult levels, and the same points system. Everything is kept just so, which is fine with us—minus the new graphics, of course. All in all, it’s a wonderful package, and the additional content alone is a reason to jump on the Holiday Pack.
If you’re in the mood for some holiday cheer, as well as some more bubble breaking action from a killer arcade game, you can hardly go wrong with the price of the new Holiday Pack. Bubble Shooter 3.0 itself is completely free, of course, which means you’ll save money there, too. Overall, you’d be silly not to go ahead and grab this one before hitting the road. Bubble Shooter 3.0 earns a solid Holiday recommendation from us.
Bubble Shooter 3.0 requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
