Zapd: Written and Video iPhone App Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we sometimes like to think that we’ve seen just about every possible sort of social application, networking tool, or Web utility. Then, we come across something like Zapd (PressPlane) which throws us a for one big, mighty loop. The app is a tremendously efficient and streamlined way to quickly create websites with social intentions out of nothing but your photos, text and an iPhone. The app is brilliantly designed, and for our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
Before going any further, we’d firstly like to clarify something: Zapd is not a social networking tool like Facebook or Twitter. Sure, it’s got the option to comment on other user’s creations, but first and foremost it is a unique hybrid between the brevity of Twitter and the full-on blogosphere of Tumblr. Here’s what we mean:
Essentially, the app provides the user with a number of prefabricated themes and layouts. You then choose a number of photos from your iPhone, and Zapd does the rest of the work. It immediately fills in the holes with your content. From there, you can choose to edit your photos with a variety of filters, or just crop them down to size. Add some text to your page, or possibly a few links, and you’ve instantly created a full web page! You can then share this to your social hubs, email it to a friend, or do just about anything else you like.
The cool part? You don’t have to leave your bloody iPhone! No other app we know of is as seamless and as integrated as Zapd. It takes mere seconds to slap together a gorgeous web page, and with little to no effort on our end. Truly, this is a marvelous reason to exist in the modern age.
Graphics and Design
When not creating iPhone reviews, we work as graphic and web designers, hammering out (occasionally award winning) material for iOS. As such, we’d simply like to say this: Zapd is one of the best user interfaces we have seen ever. The small loading animations, the soft tones, the simple sidebar action list. The whole package is unbelievably simplistic, and yet so elegant. Furthermore, the process of creating websites is as simple as only a few taps of a finger. This is an incredible offering, and one we’re quite jealous of, in fact.
Zapd is completely free in the App Store. Need we even say more? You won’t have to pay a dime to enjoy all of the features we’ve talked about, as well as the godlike interface. If you’re looking for a nice stepping stone between Twitter and Tumblr, but with so many more goodies left tucked in the pages, Zapd is an easy recommendation.
Zapd requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
