Vela Player for iPhone

Here at the iPhone App Review, we’re pretty much constantly listening to music. We do it while we’re writing, we do it while we’re setting up new posts, we even do it when we’re closing up for the day and just want to relax a bit. This is why we’re quite excited to be bringing you a full look today at a beautiful new iPhone application called Vela Player. The app allows us to effortlessly and simply control our music, look for new tracks and access our favorite streaming services. If you’re looking for our full review, you’ll find it below.

Concept and Functionality

The idea behind Vela Player is blissfully simple, as it begins with a single construct that really does change the way you mess about with your music. What we mean is this: The app’s main feature is a large voice-based control at its core. To access this feature, you simply tap the extremely ergonomic play button, and then get to work.

Tell Vela Player what song, artist, album or track you’re looking for and away the app goes. It immediately recognizes your voice, and heads to the Internet looking for matches. When it finds them, it serves them up. It’s that easy.

You might not see the value in this immediately, but think about how long it usually takes you to find a track or artist while on the road. What if you could shave off all but a few seconds of those moments, allowing you to more easily focus on the road? Best of all, Vela Player connects directly to your favorite services, like Rdio, Spotify, and Rhapsody. This means you can take all of your music with you, no matter where you’re going. If you’re not already using these features, you can even signup for a free trial through Vela Player.

Did we mention that Vela Player looks quite fantastic on the iPhone? If we haven’t, we’re doing so now. It’s obvious that the developers have made a real effort to keep the app’s layout simplistic. The end result is a shining paradigm of basic app design. No feature is hard to reach, everything is within a moment’s effort, and the main vocal command button is full-size for your ease-of-use. It’s efficient, quick and easy on the eyes. What more could we ask for?

Overall Value

And at the end of the day, Vela Player is completely free to use. This makes it an unbelievable value, as well as a no-brainer addition to anyone’s iPhone, especially if they make extensive use of their tunes while out and driving. We know we certainly do, which is why we’ll be keeping Vela Player around and running for some time to come yet.

Vela PlayerVela Player requires iOS 5.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
