Top Stylist: Written and Video iPhone Game Review
Top Stylist (formerly known as Closet Wars), developed by Crowdstar Inc., recently went through a major design overhaul. A game which features endless fashion options, this is sure to appeal to anyone who enjoys creating the latest styles.
Concept and Gameplay:
Top Stylist is very nicely designed and easy to navigate. Seeing as I never played the game back when it was Closet Wars, I can’t elaborate on what the developers did. However, I can say that it doesn’t take much time at all to figure out how to play the game.
When you open Top Stylist for the first time, you have the option to go through a very lengthy and detailed tutorial. This shows you almost every single detail about the game, which is extremely helpful because it has so many different elements to it.
The menu at the bottom of the screen gives you quick and easy access to everything you need. “Style” gives you an overview of your current clients and which style they’re looking to be dressed up in. “Inventory” shows you all of the fashion items you’ve accumulated. “Shop” is where you can go to purchase new items, and the “Earn” tab allows you to play a minigame to earn money.
Dressing your model is very easy and simple. All you have to do is pick clothing items that match the style she wants. There’s a meter below the available clothing options which increases based on how satisfied your model is with her style.
After you successfully make your model look like the next superstar, you earn experience points which help you advance to higher levels. As you progress through the game, you can challenge yourself to collect all available clothing options in Top Stylist.
The only problem I had with Top Stylist was that it tended to load pages very slowly. At one point it took me over a minute just to open the app. Also, sometimes it took me multiple tries to make purchases or perform other actions in the game. Other than that, it seems like a very stable game.
Worried that you’ll run out of clothing options? Top Stylist features over 500 fashion items, meaning it’s basically impossible to run out of clothing combinations. There are also 30 different fashion brands, so the possibilities really are endless.
I really enjoyed playing the “Earn” minigame. It’s very similar to Bejeweled Blitz. Be careful, though, because every match you make costs you energy. Like most games, this energy is replenished over time.
Top Stylist even features social network integration via GREE, which is similar to other social gaming sites like Plus+.
As always, you can’t go wrong with a free game. Top Stylist will definitely appeal to fashion buffs in casual iPhone gamers alike. The game also offers numerous boosts which can be acquired via in-app purchases. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for a new casual game to play.
Top Stylist is optimized for both iPhone and iPad. It is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iPad (3rd generation), iPad Wi-Fi + 4G, iPad (4th generation), iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (4th generation), iPad mini and iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.
