Sexy Shots: Written iPhone App Review
We’re just not very prejudiced people here at the iPhone App Review, especially when it comes to app reviews. We’ll take a look at just about anything, and just about any time. This is why we’re brining you a full review today of an app called Sexy Shots by developer NeaLogic. It’s an app that takes a now classic iOS gameplay mechanic, and then turns it on its head with a bit of racy action. If that sounds like something you might be interested in, then head on down below the break! We’ve got our full review lined up and ready to go for your reading pleasure.
Concept and Gameplay
We mentioned earlier that Sexy Shots takes a whole lot of its inspiration from a now classic iOS gaming concept. We’re going to go ahead and explain that further by calling the app naughty Fruit Ninja. In essence, the app begins by asking you to select a woman from a rather buxom lineup. From there, it whisks you away to the actual playing field.
To play the game, you’ll need to “slice” various items from the woman’s armoire, exactly as you might in Fruit Ninja. You’re rewarded for getting combos, as well as for not letting any of the wanted items fall. If you let one drop, or if you happen to hit one of the unwanted floaters, you’ll lose a life. Lose three of these, and you’re sent back to the disciplinary corner. If, however, you accrue enough points, you’ll pass the level. The incentive here? The woman is wearing fewer articles of clothing the next go ‘round. All in all, it’s an incentive to keep playing if nothing else, thought this of course will largely depend on your distraction level—we’re going to phrase it that way.
Graphics and Design
For being essentially a novelty app, Sexy Shots actually does look pretty slick on the iPhone. The gameplay mechanic is not wholly unique, but it’s also not a terrible cover of a better known title. In fact, the whole package is rather solid. You’ll get hand drawn artwork here, as well as simplistic controls that are every bit as challenging as they are rewarding. All in all, Sexy Shots is not a cheap ripoff of a game you’re more familiar with. Underneath those fun pantsuits, Sexy Shots is all business.
Our only real complaint with the app comes in terms of its pricing: Sexy Shots will set you back three bucks, which is certainly a bit higher than we might like. Still, it’s got a lot of “entertainment” value for the right user, and a gameplay mechanic that’s just as solid. With this in mind, it’s still a soft recommendation to give.
Sexy Shots requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
