Moment.me: Written and Video iPhone App Review
If the social media world had a heartbeat, what would it feel like? Have you ever read or watched a news story and wondered what it would be like to experience it firsthand? Or maybe you wish there was a simpler way to keep track of all the photos your friends took at that awesome party last night.
Concept and Functionality:
With so many social media networks available, keeping up with them can feel like a full-time job. The worst part is that sometimes you have to manually search for tweets and photos of events. What if all of that information was collected for you automatically?
Moment.me is nothing short of brilliance. By allowing users to automatically submit updates and photos to event albums, being “in the moment” has never been easier. Whether it’s an awesome rock concert half a world away or your best friend’s wedding, the magic of Moment.me allows you to feel like you’re actually there.
When you first open the app, you’re asked to connect Moment.me to your Facebook account. You also have the option to connect the app with Twitter, Instagram, and Google+. The navigation bar at the bottom makes it extremely easy to find what you’re looking for.
“Feed” shows you everything you’ve uploaded and submitted to certain moments. “Trending” is where you can view the most popular moments from all around the world. “Nearby” uses your current location to show moments that are happening around you. Lastly, “Me” gives you a detailed overview of all the moment you’ve been involved them.
Sharing moments is a simple as posting a link to Twitter, Facebook, or sending it via email. However, privacy restrictions require users to sign in via the social network of their choice to the website version of Moment.me. This helps to protect nonpublic posts.
The fact that Moment.me automatically collects your updates and photos from your connected social networks saves you a ton of time and hassle. You don’t even have to worry about tagging friends; the app does it for you.
If you’re not the type who shares everything with the world, that doesn’t mean you can’t use the app. As long as you have a Facebook account, you can lock down your privacy settings to keep the app from gathering information from you. Viewing the “Trending” tab can be just as much fun as creating your own moments.
Another cool feature allows you to see numerical stats for each moment. You can view how many tweets, Instagram photos, or other posts are included in a moment. Also, Moment.me updates in real time so you’ll never be behind.
The only feature that Moment.me is missing is Foursquare integration. Even though Facebook has its own check-in function, the original pioneer still has a pretty large following. This would be great for people like me who like to keep Facebook and Foursquare separate.
I can’t recommend Moment.me enough. It’s flexible enough for both social media fanatics and casual users who are only interested in seeing what’s going on around the world. Plus it’s free, so hurry up and download it before you miss another great moment.
Moment.me is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
