Fatty Maze’s Adventures: Written iPhone App Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we tend to like any game that presents us with some kind of challenge, though we don’t mean in the button-mashing sense. What we mean instead is that we appreciate any title that can make us pause, scratch our heads, and say, “Now what?” Today’s offering that meets this criteria is called Fatty Maze’s Adventures, by developer Andrey Tryakshin. The game is a classic yet fully classed-up maze adventure with a wealth of fun content and even more puzzles. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
If you could not tell already from the title, Fatty Maze’s Adventures involves a couple of pretty self explanatory items. First of all, the app does indeed include a very large man named Fatty Maze. Second of all, it has him attempting to get out of various mazes using a variety of tools. Some of these tools must be collected, but once they are they can be used automatically. Others you’ll only get a few shots with, and must be used more sparingly.
What does this amount to in terms of gameplay? Largely, it means you’ll spend a great deal of your time plodding about the mazes, chopping down obstacles, getting lost, and eventually finding your way to the exit at the other end of everything. If we haven’t made it clear, all of this is incredibly fun, and should not be missed out on. The mazes are extremely well designed, and the simplistic controls mean you’ll have even more time to spend on strategizing and pondering, and less time wasted on figuring out the inner workings of the app.
Graphics and Design
Best of all, the application actually looks incredibly good on both the iPhone and iPad. It’s got a cartoon-esque appeal to it that we appreciated immensely, though we also quite liked the interface. It’s obscuring in a way that’s pleasant but doesn’t keep you from playing the game itself. We also loved the in-game control scheme, which keeps everything tight, simple and easy to manage. Want to perform an action within the game? Simply tap on the item or location you’d like to move to, and Fatty Maze’s Adventures does all the work.
At the end of the day, Fatty Maze’s Adventures is perhaps slightly more expensive than we might like it to be, but it hardly detracts from the value of the app. It’s got a lovely, whimsical story, great graphics, even better controls, and more than enough content to keep you occupied for hours to come. All of this to simply say that it’s a brilliant new puzzle app, and if you’re in need of a solid recommendation, this is an easy one to give.
Fatty Maze’s Adventures requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
