The Eye Browser: Written iPhone App Review
If you’re looking to rock a new pair of glasses but you don’t feel like going to a bunch of different stores to try them on, this might just be the app you’re “looking for”. Whether you’re in the market for sunglasses or prescription eyewear, this app will help you find the style that’s right for you.
Concept and Functionality:
As someone who has had to endure the trials and tribulations of finding sunglasses and eyeglasses I like, I would’ve pleaded for an app like this a few years ago. The concept is great, and it really is a huge time-saver.
When you first open the app, you’re greeted with a super hip and fantastic menu. From here you can browse sunglasses and eyeglasses, as well as view the featured styles for both. You can also check out “My Wardrobe”, which is where your able to store your favorite glasses. There’s also a comprehensive search function which allows you to narrow down specific styles based on options such as color, age group, lifestyle, and size, just to name a few. Lastly, there’s an option to view photos of celebrities wearing certain sunglasses.
When you select either sunglasses are eyeglasses, you’re taken to a page which lists all the brands that the app features. Once you choose which brand you’re looking for, you can check out all the individual styles. There’s even a really cool “Details” page which tells you all about those particular glasses.
The real star of the show, however, is the “Try on Frame” page. This is where the magic happens. You can choose to use a photo of yourself or a model, and it’s extremely simple to resize and reposition glasses so they fit you perfectly. If you like what you see, you can easily save the glasses in “My Wardrobe”. Lastly, The Eye Browser allows you to search for your favorite styles in your area. If this doesn’t make shopping for eyeglasses or sunglasses a thousand times easier, I don’t know what does.
For an app which is based off of such a simple concept, The Eye Browser is packed with features you didn’t think you needed but are glad you have. Without a doubt, its strongest feature is the ability to superimpose glasses on your face (or the face of a model).
Another really cool feature is the ability to try on new styles without having to individually select glasses. This is perfect if you’re looking to surf through a particular brand at the speed of sight.
If you enjoy bringing friends along to see what they think and you’re afraid this app takes that away, fear not! You can share photos with friends via email, Facebook, and Twitter.
The Eye Browser is definitely an app you should look into if you’re a fan of eyewear. You can’t go wrong with being able to try on new accessories without having to travel to the store. This free app will not only save you time, but hopefully a bit of patience and gas.
The Eye Browser is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
