Sports Bet: Written iPhone App Review

Do you really like to bet on sports? In fact, do you have an entire roster of your favorites that you must absolutely keep up with? Wish you could do all of this without leaving the safety and security of your iPhone? If so, then you’re in luck! Sports Bet is an app that draws upon the sports betting at Ladbrokes to bring you full betting action directly from your iPhone (or Android, Nokia or Blackberry should you prefer it). Best of all, the app won’t cost you a thing to get started! For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break.

Concept and Functionality

The idea behind Sports Bet is relatively simple: The app serves as a compilation of thousands upon thousands of sports betting markets. These markets include sports ranging from a good bout of footy all the way to UK horse racing and back again. Seriously, if there’s a sport you’d like to bet on, you’ll find it here.

The app also allows you to make actual wagers and garner actual rewards. All of this is managed directly through the app’s parent company Ladbrokes. If you don’t have an account with the service, you can always setup one directly in-app: We appreciated the seamlessness of this. Add live results, wager return statistics, a simplistic dashboard for viewing all your entries, and a wealth of statistical information resting just beneath the hood, and you’ve got one seriously powerful betting app on your hands. The app even serves up unique offers for you to cash in on, and get a few more bets in per day.

Design and Interface

Sadly, the interface supported by the app just isn’t quite where we might like it to be. This isn’t an organizational complaint, so much as it is one of function. The app itself is easy enough to understand, and the tabbed navigational controls along the bottom ensure that it’s never too difficult to get where you’re going. However, the touch-based controls are somewhat shoddy. We had quite a few problems with the basic scrolling mechanic, while navigating between elements often sent us in a direction we didn’t want to go at all. Thankfully, these are the sort of things that future updates can easily iron out.

Overall Value

And at the end of the day, Sports Bet is still a brilliant app for the serious sports better, especially one with an existing Ladbrokes account. If you’re looking to take that specific desktop experience with you, there’s hardly a better way to do it. Especially considering Sports Bet won’t cost you a single pence. With all of that in mind, it’s still an easy recommendation: Though until further updates improve the usability, our recommendation stops at three stars.

SportsBetSports Bet requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
