Singing Monster Nutcracker: Written iPad App Review
Are you looking for a bit of holiday cheer? No, we’re not talking about the Yuletide season! We’re talking about bloody Halloween, as well as all the trappings therein! In other words, if you’ve been wondering just how to capture the spooky spirit on your iPad, we’ve got a brilliant suggestion to get you rolling. It’s called Singing Monster Nutcracker and it’s by developer Rino Enterprises. It’s a wonderfully engaging title with a lot of quirk, and a price to match. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break, as well!
Concept and Gameplay
Have you ever looked at one of those seasonal nutcracker dolls and just wondered, “What if that thing could talk? What if I could ask it questions, poke it for a reaction, and just take a second to interact with it face-to-face?”
Whether you’ve done it or not, the developers of Singing Monster Nutcracker have brought it upon themselves to bring this dream to life. Within the app, you’re allowed to poke, prod, talk to, and even feed nuts to several different classic Halloween characters. You’ll get Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolfman, and an unnamed Zombie—we’ll call him Rob, for lack of a title.
Each of these four characters comes with a unique set of reactions, each of which is actually quite endearing. We loved poking them in the eyes to watch them squint, or having them sing songs for us. Each toon comes with two songs apiece, as well as four unique sound bytes. Best of all, you can record your own sounds to add to the mix, if you’re looking to customize the app at all. Overall, it’s a unique mix, and one that will keep you and (presumably) your kids entertained well into Halloween.
Graphics and Design
We’re assuming the app’s intended audience is of a smaller nature—that is to say the app works quite well with kids. As such, the monsters included aren’t quite as creepy looking as they maybe could be. Then again, they’re also well-rounded enough that one could easily leave their iPad out at a party and let the partygoers poke and prod the characters at will. In either case, the app is guaranteed to entertain with an art style that’s pitch perfect and a set of sounds that’s really quite hilarious. Solid work, developers!
And at the end of the day, any application that costs only a dollar in the App Store, and has the potential to bring so much joy to our seasonal parties, is a winner in our book. It’s a bargain with a lot of room to wiggle, and if you’re looking for a new Halloween-flavored app to add to your iPad, this is the one to go with.
Singing Monster Nutcracker requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
