PayDragon: Written iPhone App Review
If you’re like us, you don’t likely get out to do the grocery shopping much. This isn’t because you’re lazy—rather, you’re just doing so much that it’s often difficult to find the time to head over to the local grocer and get supplies. However, thanks to your iPhone, an app called PayDragon and the developer Paperlinks, you’re now set for life. The app makes it incredibly easy to buy the items you need and have them delivered straight to your house: And without using anything other than your iPhone and a credit card. And for our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
As stated, the idea behind PayDragon looks something like this: the app allows you to purchase various common and non-perishable items from your iPhone, and then have them delivered right to your door within two days. You can do this by searching for the items you need with the app’s built-in query bar. Within our testing time with the app, we were hard-pressed to find items it didn’t have—there are quite a few to pick from.
However, the real kicker here is not the app’s wealthy database, but its barcode scanner. This incredible mechanism allows you to simply pick up an item—say an empty cereal box—scan the barcode, and then buy that item and have it delivered to you. This could not be easier, and it really is as stupid simple as it sounds. This is the ideal way to shop if you’re like us, as you commonly forget to replenish your supplies before they’re gone. In other words, PayDragon is a snappy way to restock without lifting hardly a finger.
Design and Interface
Even better, PayDragon is simply stunning on the iPhone and iPod. The interface behaves exactly as you’d hope it would, and responds to touch input like a champ. What we’re trying to say is—despite the tabbed navigational controls—the app’s interface is wonderfully solid. It’s a cinch to navigate, the scanning worked every time we tried a matching item, and the checkout process takes literally only a few clicks. All of this adds up to produce an app that’s ideally constructed for what it does, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
Our only real concern with PayDragon is that it is aimed at a niche market. It’s slightly more expensive than perhaps driving to the market would be, not to mention the cost for postage, which makes it most ideal for those who like the idea of convenience more than frugality. Still, the app itself costs absolutely nothing in the App Store, and can be setup in a matter of seconds. This makes it at tremendous value, and an easy recommendation to just about anyone.
PayDragon requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
