Jukebox Genius: Written iPhone App Review
Do you like music related trivia? How about taking it to a personal level and seeing how well you know and recognize the music from your own music library? Then the Jukebox Genius app from developer Tom Callaghan is just the app for you! It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and runs on iOS 5.0 or later.
When you first load you will be presented with the following main menu options: play with friends, individual play, view scores, and more. Basically, the app will play various clips of tunes from your device’s music library and you will either have to guess the artist/composer, song title, album name, artwork, genre, and other related information. You will be timed on how quickly you answer the correct answer as well. As time dwindles down, the selection of answers will slowly disappear one by one. If you answer a question incorrectly, the game is over. Every correct answer advances you to the next questionnaire round. The more questions you answer correctly will help you unlock more levels to play (or if you instantly need those levels to be unlocked you have the option of paying 99 cents to do so).
With the multiplayer mode, you have the opportunity to challenge your friends via Facebook and see who gets better score via the leader boards.
Appearance and Layout:
Overall, the appearance of Jukebox Genius is pretty decent. Graphics are kept simple, and there are no distracting, over the top images. The color scheme is bright and appealing, and the background display featuring a jukebox blends right in with the theme. The font size is good enough, with exception to the fact if the song title itself is lengthy, then the name may appear a bit more condensed compared to other song titles.
The sound quality is good too, and you can hear the song slips clearly. It is just up to you if you can figure out which song it is and any relevant information related to it.
For Jukebox Genius being offered for free is a steal. It is a unique take on a trivia type app based on the fact that it takes sound clips from your own music library and tests your knowledge of them. It may seem like a simple concept, but you will be surprised at how some songs may not be as obvious as others, especially with instrumental ones, or if you have a large music selection in your device’s library. It is a great and entertaining app for users of all ages and backgrounds, whether you consider yourself a music junkie or not.
