i Learn With Boing: Ocean Adventures!: Written iPhone App Review
Reviewed by Luke Patrick
Whenever TribalNova comes out with a new game for children, we tend to get a little excited. This is because, time and time again, the development studio has produced charming, educational works for our kids through their i Learn With Boing series. Each entry has a unique focus and a unique set of twists, and Ocean Adventures is no different. The app helps your child developer real-life language skills, including listening comprehension, sentence formation, and word association. Oh, and it’s also cuter than two dogs riding a pink bicycle. Concept and Gameplay
As with all good applications for kids, the idea behind Ocean Adventures is really quite simple: The best apps should always distract your child enough that they’re learning through having fun. Such is the case with today’s title, which is yet another in a string of great entries from TribalNova. As stated, Ocean Adventures is mostly concerned with language. The app has your child picking out hidden items from a stack based on their names to reinforce word association; it has them stringing together sentences to learn grammar and conversational skills; and it lastly has them ordering characters about to garner a bit more language comprehension. All in all, it’s a good set of tools, and the games they’ve arrived in are as equally fun. In fact, with easy-to-touch controls, a simple set of instructions, and clear, spoken directions, we’d think it nearly impossible for your child not to learn while using the app! And if you’re at all still concerned, you can track their progress using your in-app account, taking a look at their completed plans and progress as they go along.
Graphics and Art Style
i Learn With Boing Ocean Adventures
Here’s where we tend to get all glowy about TrivalNova, but the point remains the same: Ocean Adventures looks fantastic. It’s got television programming quality graphics that remind us endlessly of public television kids shows—this is a good thing. Likewise, the control schemes provided to your children make the games incredibly easy to pickup. This is vital to their interest, which is then further maintained by engaging characters and well-done art work. All in all, the developers have made a real effort to ensure your child is hooked on the lesson, and stays with the path.
At the end of the day, Ocean Adventures is a fantastic way to take some of your child’s downtime with the iPad and turn it into a real learning opportunity. Ocean Adventures is a brilliant way for them to reinforce necessary skills through an app and game that is entertaining. To us, that alone is worth much more than money. Thankfully, though, you haven’t got a worry in the world: iLearn With Boing is free in the App Store! In other words, you’ve got no excuse not to give it a go. This one is an easy recommendation, and an even easier purchase.
i Learn With Boing: Ocean Adventures requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
