Dog Agility 3D: Written and Video iPhone App Review
Do you like dogs? Do you really like dogs, including absolutely everything about them? Does this love extend to the wonderful world of dog agility sports? If so, then you might want to pony up for Dog Agility 3D by developer Jay Baraniecki. The app serves as a wonderful port of the popular (and quite fluffy) sport onto the iPad and iPhone. Best of all, it comes with a sheer mountain of content for you to play through. For our full review of this tail-wagging app, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
If you have never seen a dog agility contest, we’re not exactly sure how you’ve managed it: They’re those competitions you might see on television, in which dogs run through a series of obstacles from one end of the course to another. During this run, they get points for completing certain objectives, avoiding certain penalties, and for doing it all with a whole lot of speed.
Dog Agility 3D more or less directly transports this experience and this setup to the iPhone and iPad. You control a dog as it goes through its paces. To do this, you tilt your iDevice left or right while also swiping up and down to slow down or speed up. It’s marvelously simple, and with controls that easy to learn, you’re ready to tackle each and every course in a matter of only minutes. Speaking of courses, you’re going to get an entire bevy of them to play through. The game is loaded to the gills with 340 courses, which provides enough twisting, turning, jumping and running to last any dog agility fan a lifetime.
Design and Graphics
We have to admit, Dog Agility 3D looks pretty great on the iPhone’s Retina display, too. The app has been designed with graphics that remind us a lot of older console games—though not in a bad way. They’re crisp, sharp and elegant. The controls, as stated, are also spot-on for what we’d expect. We do have some concerns about replay value, though: Each of the levels offers something new, but at the end of the day, they are fairly similar. Still, these concerns aren’t large enough to warrant a point reduction from us.
And at the end of the day, Dog Agility 3D is undeniably a value. The app comes with a tremendous number of courses to run, several dog breeds, gorgeous graphics, easy controls, and enough fun to last any fan from here until race day. With all of that in mind, as well as the app’s solid three dollar price tag, we can’t help but recommend Dog Agility 3D to dog fans everywhere. It’s a great application for those with a passion.
Dog Agility 3D requires iOS 3.1.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
