Turtles, Huh?: Written and Video iPhone App Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we tend to look for one or two things in a brand new iPhone app: It must be able to soak up a whole lot of our morning commute without problems, and it must also offer a unique twist on old classics. Thankfully, today’s title in question called Turtles, Huh? by developer j2sighte meets both of these requirements, and more. It’s a totally original game with some power-packed twists, and if you’re looking for a cheap recommendation, there’s none better. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break, as well!
Concept and Gameplay
If forced to describe Turtles, Huh?—which, we sort of suppose we are—we’d say it was a collection of mini-games with a slightly larger mini-game attached. In fact, it’s got 8 proper miniature curios, as well as a full bodied arcade romp for the player to score some achievements from.
The proper mini-games have you doing everything from squashing turtles with your big penguin feet to skeet shooting shells as they’re thrown into the air. You’ll also be counting up shells, hopping over them, and doing various other tasks with a terrapin twist. It’s quite a lot of fun, and though 8 may seem like a small number, we were actually quite pleased with the amount of content that’s contained here.
As for the main game, it arrives with some 88 unique missions, a ginormous wealth of improvements for your equipment, and a solid how-far-can-you-get gameplay style. All of this simply to say that, when you’re tired of the mini-games, it offers a refreshing change of pace.
Design and Graphics
Best of all, the app actually looks pretty slick on the iPhone, too. It’s got a straightforward vector-style look that we enjoyed. Furthermore, the gameplay itself is rock-solid, no matter what side of the game you’re playing. All in all, it’s rather apparent to us that underneath the game’s cute exterior (and it is incredibly bloody cute) the developers have thought a lot about how Turtles, Huh? aught to be, and have worked to make it so. Truly, this is a professional effort.
And at the end of the day, Turtles, Huh? is easily worth the one hundred pennies you’ll spend on it. It arrives with a mountain of gameplay to support it, making it the ideal candidate for a lazy afternoon, a quick ride into town, or even just a few spare moments in the queue. All in all, it’s a tremendous value with a cute and quirky exterior. To sum things up, Turtles, Huh? is an easy recommendation for any iOS gamer in need.
Turtles, Huh? requires iOS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
