School Notes: Video iPhone App Review
When it comes to applications that are aimed at college students, we tend to get a bit jealous: None of these beautiful, life simplifying tools existed when we were taking exams, and we’re often a bit lustful. That being said, it’s the apps like School Notes by developer Mike File that make the whole educational process that much easier. The app is just about the darn simplest way we’ve seen yet to ensure that you get the most out of your in-class notes—on top of a whole lot of other features, as well. Best still, you’ll find our whole review of the app below! Starting with:
Concept and Functionality
The idea behind School Notes has been displayed in a few other apps available in the App Store, but the purity of the concept in action is really quite impressive. The app, in essence, allows you to record just about any aspect of a typical classroom setting. Just setup a student profile, and then get to saving! Here’s what we mean:
First off, the app lets you jot down actual in-class notes, no problem. However, you can also snap a photo of the whiteboard if you’d like, or record the lecture itself to save as a playable audio file. Want a video of the class? No problem there, either. Lastly, you can then summarize each event with a quick note, and upload it to iCloud for safe keeping. It’s that efficient, and we have to be honest: We would have used School Notes a million times in our own college days. Especially with cloud syncing support, we would have to stretch to find any faults in the functionality offered by the app itself.
Graphics and Design
On the whole, we have to admit that School Notes looks pretty good on the iPhone, too. The features it offers have been quite cleverly laid out, and we see no problems in accessing our materials. Furthermore, the heftier stuff (that syncing we were talking about) behaves quite nicely. However, we just don’t feel like the app takes a back seat enough to your actual notes. When we use services like Evernote, we hardly notice the interface for our actual content. We feel like, if we were to offer any direct criticisms, this is where we’d suggest future app redesigns go.
All of that being said, School Notes is still a wonderfully useful and complex note taking application, and it arrives with a brilliant price tag, too. For only three bucks you can enjoy one of the easiest class boosting apps on the market. It comes with a good interface, solid performance, and all the features you need to succeed. And to us, that’s the best definition of a bargain we’ve seen in a while. All in all, School Notes comes recommended.
School Notes requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
