ProCamera HD: Written iPad App Review
The next generation photo and video capturing app for iPad has arrived. It’s called ProCamera HD, and it’s one sweet little package. This app follows in the footsteps of ProCamera for iPhone, also by Cocologics, an app that’s garnered awards and a pretty heavy following due to its easy handling of expert or “pro” video and camera properties. Now during a special promotional period, you can download ProCamera HD for iPad for $2.99. Let’s see how the iPad version of this app holds up.
The feature-heavy ProCamera HD iPad app has what I can safely call a healthy set of options. In Expert Mode 2.0 you can control exposure, focus and white balance almost instantly. You can lock and unlock focus and exposure. You can zoom while recording videos, turn on rapidfire and sport mode for capturing bursts of shots. There’s also the app’s awesome anti-shake image stabilizer (what a lifesaver!) and integrated geotagging and time stamping features. Grids, virtual horizons and map view? Yeah. This app’s got em.
I also love how this app shares. You can sync the ProCamera HD app with DropBox, flickr, Twitter and Facebook, share multiple images via email, and even send full resolution videos. iPad 3 users get some extra cool features, like the control over focus option. My future add-on wishlist for this app would include easily accessible editing software.
The bottom line? This app has some extremely helpful options for folks who want to take pictures and capture video like a pro.
Layout & Design:
Where the ProCamera HD app for iPad really shines is in the UI. Not only is it customizable, which goes a long way towards making image capturing on the iPad a streamlined process, it’s also quite easy and fast. You can capture images in rapid succession and even snap pics while you capture video, although the video then features the photo capture sound, which is a bit annoying.
I love the fact that almost every screen in this app has top right corner access to the camera, making it a snap, literally, to get back in creative mode. The movable toolbar and general ease of use in this app are awesome. It could use a little bit of a facelift, or a help section, in my opinion. But in general, I’m quite pleased with the ProCamera HD app’s look and feel.
During an introductory period, you can download ProCamera HD for $2.99. That’s a healthy discount off the app’s usual $4.99 retail price. But even after this sale is over, I think the ProCamera HD app is the go-to app for iPad 3 owners looking to get more out of their camera and camcorder.
ProCamera HD iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
