Moon Skater: Written and Video iPhone App Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we really like arcade games. We especially like arcade games that present us with some form of challenge. As such, we’re quite stoked today to be introducing you to a young physics-based title with some real promise. It’s called Moon Skater Pro Version and it’s by developer 3 Guys Apps. It offers a unique and spacey game mechanic that’s guaranteed to help you have a rocketing good time. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
The premise behind Moon Skater Pro Version is relatively simple. You play as a young, futuristic punk skate boarder on a world class hoverboard. Your mission is simple, as well: You must get from one end of the level to the next without running into any baddy aliens, rocks, or asteroids. At your disposal you’ve got a really tall double jump, a single laser pistol, and a unique speed boost that makes you invulnerable to enemies for a brief period.
All in all, it’s a very solid concept, and we especially liked the vibe of the app. It’s a real blast to . . . well, blast your way through the ten included levels. Constantly checking to be sure that you’re shooting when you should or jumping when you aught to is also a fun twist. Lastly, we greatly appreciated the boost option, which helped us out of some really sticky situations at times. Overall, it’s a fun, simplistic and heartfelt gameplay mechanic and concept that makes the entire title quite solid.
Design and Interface
That being said, we do have quite a few complaints with Moon Skater Pro Version. For instance, the jump button is so picky that we often found ourselves mashing the screen just slightly to the side, resulting in us hitting a no-no part of the level. We also wish the app came with a few more levels, or a wider variety of enemies and objects to work with. We’re not saying the gameplay is repetitive, but we are saying that the game itself uses a lot of the same elements within each level. All of this is a real shame, too, as the game itself supports a very comfortably simple control scheme.
Still, at the end of the day Moon Skater Pro Version is easily worth the dollar that it will cost you. You’ll still get ten action-packed levels of moon boarding action, as well as the joy that comes with. It’s got its quirks to work out, but as time rolls on, we can fully expect to see bigger and better things emerging from Moon Skater Pro Version in the coming updates.
Moon Skater Pro Version requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
