eWeather HD: Written iPhone App Review

Reviewed by Sarah Hanlon

My aviation background has conditioned me to be highly critical toward any weather app I use.  My iPhone is an invaluable part of my daily ritual for checking conditions outside, and any app which makes this task easier is sure to find its way to the coveted first page on my phone’s home screen.

eWeather HD, developed by Elecont, is possibly the most feature-filled weather app you can buy for the price.  I was absolutely amazed by the amount of weather data that’s available.  While most weather apps simply tell you temperatures and sky conditions, eWeather HD has a few tricks up its sleeve which literally blow away the competition.

My favorite eWeather HD feature is the weather clock, which gives you an excellent visual reference for the day’s forecast.  This is the first time I’ve seen such a concept in a weather app, and I believe it’s a great feature for people who tend to plan their day around a forecast.

Another great feature is a weather alert system which includes push notifications and notification center support.  This makes it even easier to keep tabs on what’s going on around you. There’s even an option to display the latest temperature as an icon badge.

eWeather HD also includes barometric pressure trends and earthquake data, along with extremely detailed and precise radar maps.

Concept and Functionality:

Though it takes a little while to learn your way around the app, everything you need to know for an immediate look at the weather is presented on a single screen.

True to its name, eWeather HD is visually stunning.  The app uses gorgeous sun and moon graphics to display sky conditions.  The interface is sleek and modern looking, giving the app an almost futuristic feel.

I can’t recommend eWeather HD enough if you’re a weather junkie or enthusiast.  The information it provides is invaluable if you depend on an accurate forecast in the palm of your hand. However, if you’re looking for a simple app which only displays temperature and sky conditions, it’s probably best to skip this and go for a free app instead.

eWeather HD is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later.
