PhotoStation: Video iPhone App Review
When it comes to really high-quality photo manipulation tools for the iPhone, you’ve really been out of luck within the confines of the App Store. There are a few Adobe sponsored titles to work with, but for the most part, obtaining that desktop experience while on the go has only been a dream. Thankfully, though, we get to introduce you to PhotoStation (Samer Azzam) (formerly AnyShape) today: The app makes a good case for improved photo editing on the iPhone, and at a price that we can agree with. For our full review of the app, you need only to scroll on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
First off the bat, PhotoStation will provide you with all of the standard sort of iPhone photo editing tools that you’ve become used to. You’ll get a mountain of filters (seriously, there are more than a few) to work with, as well as some colorizing touches. We liked the fact that these have been split, as it allows for more control. There’s also resizing, cropping, and all that other stuff.
We’re skimming over it all because PhotoStation’s real punch is in the editing tool. It gives you a full (Yes, you read that correctly) bezier curve utility with which you can highlight any portion of the photo you’re editing. Then, you can selectively wrangle it into place exactly as you’d like it to be. That’s bloody brilliant, and if you don’t think it is, just start playing. Within seconds, we promise you’ll be finding new ways to combine various effects with specified portions of your images to create wholly inventive items. It’s quite quick, very simple and above all, a step forward for photo manipulation on the iPhone.
Design and Interface
Best of all, PhotoStation has a pretty wicked interface to go with it! Everything has been arranged using a set of icons contained within a tray at the bottom or side of the screen. You can access all the major features through this, a process that’s been made even simpler by the various chains of menus the developers have included. Oh, and did we mention that the user interface itself is rather good looking? All in all, it’s simple to manage, easy on the eyes, and quick to use. Sounds like a bargain to us!
Right now, PhotoStation is completely free in the App Store. However, that price won’t stay for long. Even though, the two bucks the developers will be asking for PhotoStation when it returns to a for-pay scheme is hardly enough to cover the amount of content included here. PhotoStation is a tremendous value, and if you’ve been looking for such a tool to add to your favorite iOS device, we have no better suggestion than this one right here.
PhotoStation requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review, as well as a video production fee.
