WhiteBoard Mojo: iPad App Written Review
Do you know what we hate most about creating business presentations? The whole bloody thing. There’s just something about needing to sketch out our thoughts, include a few graphs, and then email the whole thing out to our peers that gets our goat every time. However, with WhiteBoard Mojo by developer VizMojoLabs, we might yet have a fighting chance at being comfortable with a good old powerpoint. This iPad app makes it deliciously simple to create stunning presentations, and without leaving the land of iOS, too. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
The idea with WhiteBoard Mojo is pretty simple, but once you start to move beyond the basics of how the app works, things can get wonderfully complicated. Here’s the basic rundown, though: Essentially, the app arms you with all of the pens, drawings and text tools that you need to correctly create a beautiful presentation for your next business meeting. The real trick here is that the app gives you more than 50 unique drawings to fling out onto the white board. These include things like speech bubbles, graph diagrams, and many more other useful graphics. With these as your backbone, it is much harder to create a presentation that doesn’t look good, or that takes a long time to read. In fact, we’d dare you to make one that’s difficult to understand.
All in all, with additional sharing features to all the popular venues (including eMail, Facebook and Twitter) as well as quick line drawing and wire-framing tools, WhiteBoard Mojo isn’t the most specialized mockup application we’ve ever seen. Then again, it is more than likely the most efficient, and certainly the best at producing end results.
Design and Layout
When it comes to apps like WhiteBoard Mojo, the real trick is to create a user experience that’s easy to manage, simple to maneuver, and otherwise inventive. Now, WhiteBoard Mojo’s interface isn’t quite on the same level as some other apps we’ve seen recently, but it’s far from counter intuitive. In fact, we liked the tabs along the side quite a lot, and we had no trouble using the built-in graphics. The drag-to-drop and click-to-add mechanics make mockup creation a dream, and overall, we highly doubt you’ll find much to complain about within the app’s excellent design.
At the end of the day, our only real complaint with WhiteBoard Mojo is the price. It costs a whopping two and a half Starbucks lattes, which in app terms, is rather dear. Then again, the benefit of having such a quick mockup and presentation tool at your disposal on your favorite mobile device is a tremendous boon. And for that, we suppose we’d be willing to pay ten bucks. Then again, we’d still like to see the price knocked down to about half that. Otherwise, WhiteBoard Mojo is simply one of the best such tools on the market, hands down.
WhiteBoard Mojo requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
